Hello forum:

Wanted to ask if anyone knows if the Virus Ti has actually been released yet (to buy that is, preferably if you know if it's out in England) or if it's still in the "pre-ordered - but not recieved" limbo.

saw this video and thought: "Hmmm, possibilities":
http://www.sonicstate.com/news/shownews.cfm?newsid=1960

(scroll down and click on of the "ben crossland demonstrates" links)

If anyone knows if it's out, or if there's (yet) another release date, please tell me

Nik

That video must just be riddled with those subliminal messages man...
"buy this now" for half a second every 20 seconds lol
Or it isn't... and the synth is just absolutely amazing

Hypersaws! just the name makes me happy

Not sure if Access are using the same implementation, but super/hypersaw is nothing new. Anyone used a JP8000/8080 before?
I think the newer Supernovas also had a similar function.
Has been used to death from the hands-up-in-the-air-euro-hard-dance-cheese producers.
Anyway the sheer number of oscillators is not as important as having a few oscillators that sound phat and I remember the oscillators in the Virus B I used to have where not sounding great...to me at least.

Because you can't import your own wavetables in
Apparently it is not possible to sort this problem out with a software update either...although last time I checked this was at the beggining of the summer and maybe Access have addressed the problem in which case I'm talking bollocks

BTW Wavetable oscillators are not new also.....BUT TO PROCESS EACH SOUND WITH PLUG INS WITHOUT RECORD THE SOUND IN THE COMPUTER IS NEW

I had the synth for about a year so I did spent a lot of time on it. The Virus has this plastiky tone that you can't get rid off. It was supposed to be great at emulating analog but the oscillators sounded far from VCOs. It had a digital sound that I simply did not like. And I like digital, I think the Nord LEad sounds great.

Yeah I know wavetables are not new. The Waldorf synths have nice wavetable features.
You can process soft synths without recording them. I know the Virus is a hardare synth, but imho is not that special compared to good soft synths, like the Creamware ones for example (they don't take CPU either). Anyway you can process any sound without recording it using hardware effects.

in jp8000 it was called super saw (it think) and in the novations double saw but i think it's all the same (harmonically, at least)

Apart from the whole bunch of stacked OSCs (sounds like a juno hoover) the OSC syncing with itself hsa been done in novations since about 6 years before, has the wavetable stuff has been copied from waldorf designs (waves and microwaves synths).

It's a cool synth... i'm just not sure i want a synth to be so dependant on my PC/OS combination.

Those older like i am will remember that OSs change regularly and not being able able to use some stuff because of arquitecture changes makes me go mad. MIDI is reliable

if i decide to save, it will be for a nord 3

love that buttons

i do it, without recording hardware synths. just open a track for your soundcard inputs in your VST host (SX, Logic, FL,whatever) and apply FXs as wanted

I think the TI will run fine as a standalone synth, I believe the programming via the front panel will give access to most if not all parameters, I don't think its going to be like the Nord Modular where a PC is necessary, again I could be wrong.
Access will definitely update the software for new OSs, but then again they will release something new to replace the TI as time goes by. From what I know and hear, most Virus users are happy to sell their older Virii to get the newest version. I don't think the Virus will ever be a classic like the Jupiters, the Prophets, the Memorymoogs, etc...synth's whose resale value is more than it was to buy new.
Midi is reliable, but silly OSs mean that sequencing hardware as tight as soft synths is next to impossible
