What is the ultimate studio? I now have the oppotunity to build one, from scratch, and am having trouble as to whats absolutly neccesary as apposed to overpriced equipment.

Sound insulation, appropriate venting, isolation booths, sound proof room(s), double doors 'n windows and of course equipment are all lovely, but do I have to get all of them in order to have a standard studio? I already have some KRK rp5 monitors, good computer, huge speakers and an OK studio mixer but it's time for massive upgrade.

I've checked top-notch studios like IM, deedrah, etc but obviously you need a crazy budget in order to get that kind of stuff.

Whats are the neccesities? I've been making music for about 2 years now and am sick of sitting in front of a screen for hours and hours so I need proper hardware too.

Please help as to what an ideal studio would contain within a reasonalble budget.

Thanks!

hi glitch...

the ultimate studio? do you mean for trance or THE ULTIMATE SOUND RECORDING STUDIO??

i am assuming you mean for trance...

well...you only need a live room with sliding doors and blah blah if you are planning on recording live stuff...with mics...that means you wuold need mics as well...but i will assume that you wont be doing this,....

you only really need a mixer if you have lotsa of synths that need routing to be recorded and you have hardware effects processors that you can insert and send through yuor mixer onto your symth channels.....or the other use for a mixer would be if you take you signal and just want to put hardware fx and etc on to it or whatever....

so ...important stuff is this....the acoustics of your room, monitoring, your computer and plugins and then of course what hardware synths u decide to use....

soundproofing isnt necassary unless you want to have a live room for live recording or you have neighbours who are gona be hacked of from the constant doof doof sound eminating from your room...

now what is your budget? if it is big then you can go for some really neat shit, if it is moderate , then you can choose carefully....

the truth is you dont need a gear list like IM's to make hectic banging trance...

um give some more details abotu what you are lookign for and we can help you more...

I dont do the drugs....I AM the drugs

hey there...for psy trance there are a few things you do need..

a good subtractive synth with a healthy set of LFO destinations and a large selection of OSC wave forms eg, Pentagon, Albino, Vanguard. Even syths like ES1 or A1 are fine if a little dull.

You'll need a sampler of some kind Kontakt, Halion, Battery are good chioces..Battery is mainly decked out for drums and hits as opposed to multisamples .

You may want another synth using other synthesis methods eg FM7 for a wider pallette of sounds and also you may consider a semi modular/ modular system such as Reaktor, ZEta 3, Moog Modular for your standout sounds..

For psy leads you do want to have the ability to modulate pulse width so thats something to look out for...

on the processing side you'll want smoe far out fx gizmos as well as the usuual compressors eq's..Waves , TC Ohm boys etc.
