So i assume that most of us frequenters of this section of the forum have found the tutorial thread on top for quite some time.

i hope that most of you have read the developments of the last three weeks, them being me stepping in as overseer of the project and a structure of how i'd like to see it grow. http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/43645/forum/2/start/15 (at the end)

after i wrote that i was sure that their would be a surge of excitement and contribution. that our community would horde together to create this.
but when i check the forum and my email in anticipation, for the wealth of ideas and inovations our community wants, and find it near empty i become a bit sad.
this is our opertunity o create somethign together to better what we all love and we are overlooking it.
maybe i sound nieve when i write something like this, and im probobly taking it more personaly than i should. good for me.

i hope this pep talk helps.

This post is too important to be looked over.
Obviously there is some misunderstanding here. On one hand this section is very active, ppl asking questions and getting answers in less then a day. on the other hand the thread 'Oh, all you great wizards of music creation....' hangs above kind of empty.
Why is that ?, I'll try to explain.
Most ppl here are too busy to take the time to write a tutorial, they have a day job, music to produce and a load of other shit. How can one put himself to a task of writing a tutorial when he has so much to do. Sure it's sad, but that's life, a limited period of time.
So why is that section is still so good ?
probably because it doesn't enforce you to think too much. If someone asks a question, you either know the answer or not, and if you do you write it quickly without spending time on research.
So what can be done to use that knowledge ?
I think that the best thing is to create a FAQ with selected and revised Q & A from this section. Some ppl do go all the way and explaine in length and details. Those should be tracked and sorted out to a large FAQ section.
talolard, I think you'll make a big diffrence to everyone here if you'll do that, instead of waiting for tutorials. I think that instead of saying 'Use the search...', it would be easier to look in that FAQ first, especialy for new members.
Anyway that's only my opinion, but I think that other may share it.

Honestly I didn't even know the thread had changed.

As Hayez says, there are a lot of good tutorials on here already (Colin's sidechaining tutorial, Mike's bassline tutorial, and Kaz's ADSR tutorial). I believe most of these are on the FAQ already, but I'm sure there are more.

And yes, typing up tutorials is a lot of work, but I'm sure we could get a number of them put together.

Some questions come to mind regarding this project:

-Is there a preferred format for making the tutorials (Word document, screenshots, etc).

-How can we put up tutorials to be critiqued/reviewed by other people? I could spend a while writing a tutorial, but half of what I put in is going to be personal preferences. It would be nice to have each tutorial be it's own thread (perhaps linked to from the main FAQ page) that could allow for a discussion after each tutorial (for other people to give alternative ways of doing things).

And most of all:

-What do we want tutorials on? This is a big one to me, especially as I would like to write a tutorial, but am just unsure about what to write one on.

I would think a list of topics would be most beneficial, giving people ideas on what they could write a tutorial on. Maybe we could start with brainstorming up a list?

Here's a go:

EQ - biggie, would need to be divided into several sections probably
Compression - like EQ, another big topic
Building a drum kit
Using loops
Building/layering kicks
Synth programming - leads/pads/FX/etc etc all in all, ideas to get the creativity flowing. These could by specific to certain synths or just ideas for any synth
Sequencer tips/tricks - Cubase, logic, reason, fruity, sonar, etc
Theory - basics of harmony and/or arrangement
Sound-specific - how to get the classic 'whoosh' sound, or how to do the laser sound, etc
Miscellaneous - a place to put the oddball tutorial in.

just some ideas, surely there are more!

hayez,
i understand people have jobs, and are busy. in the army we used to say "time is something you create".
i think that the idea of an faq is an excellent idea, as a first step towrds this project and thank you for that insight.

fuzzkitten,
i think that the peer-editing process would be achieved best on a yahoo group. as you mentioned in yuor post and i in mine, now is the time to list what topics we want to work on, to categorize anmd sub categorize etc.
i'd apreciate if you you and anyone else, detail the list you provided into more specific topics.
thanks
tal
