the truth is out here... if u have any comp music programs and u do music well, don't be so sure on yourself, today the main shit on the electronic industry, is q-u-a-l i-t-y, u need quality, and softwares like frutiy loops or impulse don't give this kind of quality, all u need is stornd module/synth such as access virus, with a midi controller keyboard, lot's of ides, cubase or protools or logic audio, and u'r all set, and most importantly a SOUND Card, recomedded also a mixer, but that's only a recomendation, so have fun on doing music, i'm doing music on the computer with the fruity loops, but i'm soon heading for a synth, probably access virus, so in the mean time, have fun... |

correct me if im wrong, but most synths today are infact powerfull programs... they r just not inside a computer which makes them "Hardware"... they emulate the sound of analog synths, they are not Analog..
anyways, im still new, so, correct me if im wrong... |

:) IsraTrance Senior Member with 192 posts and still new... (right...)
And... You are absolutely right! But... You're wrong... Todays new sound modeling synth (analog style) are infact digital and powered by a huge software thats operate them, but you forgot that at the core of every one of them there is a uniquely developed and powerful DSP processor, Filter units, Effect units, Quality Convertors and much much more! Its those unique hardware circuits (along with the often brilliant software OS) that gives each synth its warmth and character in the sound. |

Senior member - yes, only cause i post a lot and ask around a lot and stuff (and i also bug the admins from time to time, but not intentionaly, just keeping the flow :-) ), but new to the trance scene as a musical one, and im still getting all the lingo and tech-talk together. being a recording musician (3 singles so far, recorded pro, another 2 sketches recorded live-to-dat and countless recorded rehehrsals) makes it somewhat easier to speculate, ask, reply, and sometimes, even counter someone with a thuoght of my own :-)
any how, its nice to see i was absolutely right and wrong at the same time... kinda boosts up your morale, eh? ;-) anyway, thanks for the enlightment. im still learning. |

nothing much. i dont have any hardware as of yet. i've been fiddeling around with some freeware trackers, groovboxes and softsynths, but nothing too professional. my major influence in trance comes from 2 main sources: DJ Juan Verdera (Spiritual Healing) and Infected mushroom.
nice being the enlighted :-) the redefinition of light....

Itai Spector - You can take the attitude that you need the high quality gear like Access Virus (which I highly recommend) to make good sounding music.. but whose world do you want to play in?
..why do people use analogue.. it sounds better.. NO - b'coz of the flaws that it puts into the material. Analogue has natural tape compression (due to the magnetic method) and tape hiss.. all of which when used properly colours the sound in a pleasant way..
If the digital gear is used well (and I have heard this in soooo many tracks) the flaws become the pleasant character.. There are no rules in audio engineering.. just what you limit yourself by the world in which you base yourself.. start breaking some rules and stop confusing your ears.. if it sounds good - IT SOUNDS GOOD..
Cubase is an alternative that when used properly is very powerful.. and I spent 2 years on the Pro-Tools platform (my last year v5.1) and there are many things they can't do.. I wouldn't take a Pro-Tools rig into a live enviroment.. I would still be very nervous with the others but nowhere near as bad a PTools.. I think it is the greatest package for a studio enviroment but LIVE??
What context are you talking about? |

Hey ppl..!
I must agree about the quallity sound a REAL analogue synth gives in comparence with softs` or some shitty digital synth!....BUT...... As an owner of an JP8000 myself and im about to purchase the Eletratribe too, I need to say that Reason gives out the most amazing sound ive ever heard a computer do! Offcourse its not a real synth but the sounds are soo deep and clear and sometimes you could probably fool me about whats playing!!! So my point is...dont say that u cant generate good sounds from a computer without any external equippment but - yes a real synth is a MUST when it comes to this kinda music making...!!! BOM.... |
