Back to the topic.
I think label indeed should innovate to survive. Going back to doing something that was done before is not innovative, though.
Other things label should do to survive:
1. Have a musical vision.
2. Release music they really like.
3. Have a long term business plan and be willing not to make money for a while
4. Have a strong quality filter on their releases- release only music that makes them go "Wow!".
5. Work really hard.
6. Diversify their catalog and not stay in one box/formula.
7. Make sure there is a justification for their existence in the sense that they will give the artist enough back for the cut of money they're taking.
8. Be creative in the way they work and in generating income.
There's more, but I'm on my way out and that's a good start for you.

good music and innovation is the key
also a fair tariff system for people of various income is a nessecity
most south americans or east europeans cant afford 12 euro/cd or 1.39 per track
this is something worth to discuss
also a good tip for upcomin labels
be your own manufacturer
and have some money aside to start walk
