inovative is the key word for new psytrance i belive ..
in a time when the music sounds very similar to each other , if an artist like to break out he must do something new ! new concept

I personally find it easiest simply not to make the music about the bass but about the music.
I like to use unobtrusives basslines which simply support the rest of the track.
Just let bass be bass and concentrate on the music.

I get deadbored at partys because it seems most music seems to be about presenting "the fat basslines". And many people seem to judge the music by the existance of the commonly accepted bassline sound and pattern. If its there and fat, they say its "good produced" or "professional". Sounddesign, depth, 3 dimensionality or even personality or expression have no importance or are not transmitted by the soundsystems commonly used.

I hear so much music which is well produced, convinces with a fatbassline, but from my expressive point of view is completely premature for me. And I would never play or release it.

I believe, that most people simply don't want different music.. its too complicated.
Its much easier to recognize a fat bassline, good production than to recognize authentic expression.

And unfortunately it's tiring for many to get used to originality. Its easier to listen and create to what everybody is used to, you have to learn the formula only once, not for EACH song.

bytheway cool bass and sound undertow!! Trippy stuff. I miss that energy in the music!           Most of my music for you to download at:

i agree subconsciousmind but you re not tired of hearing maybe 5 differents bass pattern in a night party?(or maybe i don t like psytrance like i used too i don t know...) in fact psytrance with good production have lost all the experimental aspect of the music .

You can't imagine how tired!! But there is more than that for me.
Thats not because of the basslines, but because for me the songs (better tracks) as whole are completely meaningless or unoriginal.
"basslines" "patterns" "production" for me thats all surfacial elements which can in any manner be combined to beautifull music..

Bottom line for me, I don't care what elements a musician, artists uses to fullfill his art, if it, as complete artwork, has what I expect from art in the end. I don't think that is done very often in psytrance... just my opinion.

From my point of view in PsyTrance I see too much "to see and to be seen", "to appear in the best light", "sound like "Psy superstar XY" to have the biggest dick, car and house.. aehm... I mean hardest sound, fattest bassline and best production.. instead of developing something own...

This Energy (also macho thing, isn't it?) in the music tires me, not a specific bassline pattern... I think thats just the most obvious symptom of it. Since beats and bass seem to have become symbolic for "strength and potence"

I can understand that trend in many music and artist scenes because I believe I know very well how hard it is to not conform..
There is much less acceptance, a much harder stand, less chances, more critic..

At least this is how I feel. But hey! When I die I can sing "I did it myyyyyyyyy waaaaay"           Most of my music for you to download at:

all nice words! very off topic my friend..
its not a debate here...
also the issue isnt how fat is the bassline but how original and interesting...
u can start another thread..called the step sister of trance music...or I did it my waaaaaay(which isnt your line also taken from another artist;)..

Sorry about the offtopic, I found it simply grabs the routes of the problem deeper. But I didn't mean to distract from the topic.

First, there is allways the progressive phat bassline whice is a long low phat pad
and u sidechain it to yourr kick,
and it's sounds really phat bass.

Second, Make a groovy bassline in 2 diff channels.
take one hard right, and one hard left.
and then antiphase one of them.

and it will sound like your bass coming out of your track spectrom

Great thread
im experimenting too with weird basslines
& as a trilogy lover i use to alternate my bass & very carefully tweak tha amp envelope
& after some distortion(or not) , EQ , waves RBass (or not)
& after
sidechaining it with the kick
it gives the psy-groovy & kind of progress kick
that keeps the speed up without hearing the usual -kbbb- but instead u listen something like k0bb at 148bpm in a very nice way

i will try to upload something

loved Mikes' grooovy bassline

On a mono system it would be, yeah. Bad idea if you want the crowd to groove.

For Elad, in a mono it will be silent.

but in stereo it will sound something else.
i used it allot in my tracks.
and ppl think it's quite weird at once,
but as the time goes the hear getting used to it, and it's giving the bass a very uniqe place in the mix.

and for UnderTow, why is it a bad idea for a groove ? :S

I pretty much bet he meant because they will cancel each other out on a mono-pa

I agree that this effect sounds quite nice on stereo systems, but you will defenately get a not-that-funny surprise if you have to play on a mono-pa so better avoid it          https://soundcloud.com/hazak
