thats a hard question mister...I think with faster music its quite difficult, but with more groovy like basslines there are a lot of possibilities!

maybe just using something else than the usual the usual saw/square waves...or using more unusual fx on the bass and using it more as an effect...

but seriously, I dont think you can change much with kick/bass in dance music...its just like you can hardly do any different timesignatures than 4/4 for dance stuff (except a more dub like style, but thats not what you re aiming for I think)           https://soundcloud.com/hazak

Here's something I made with a friend many years ago before the advent of digital DAWs:

This has 3 bass lines layered. Maybe layering bass like this might give someone some ideas.

Or use 1 note and play with amplitude and cutoff envelope, can even make the illusion of 1/32th notes and such           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet

The track "Spacerabbits" on the following site

http://twistedsessions.com/artists/322/audio.php was made with 2 layered basslines, that were played single at times.... I like the concept of layering basslines, it can have very PHAT results...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

thats what i mean..
the speed..shure takes some of the groove but its way more interesting to have diffrent basslines..along with the regular ones..

Didgeridoo bass is pretty cool after some EQ and maybe a bit of slicing. King of the high texture one note bassline!

Those desperate for new ideas may also try using 20th notes instead of 16ths. Or use a long droning sub note like some twisted breaks artists use.

Ooh! Also just any old type of bassline with any groove you can think of but imply 16ths by selecting the arpeggiator to apply modulation only and not interfere with note triggering.

Or use a different wave form for every note.

Or here's a crazy idea... no seriously hear me out.

Slow it down a little!

wow.. yeah I just blasted the spectrum way open.

Seriously though slow bass = better definition in groove. Maybe on a sunday perhaps?

not at all...
just trying to push people to be more inovative..look for new things.
and perhaps learn too..
heres an idea
i just did a remix for insomnia...
I used an electro kick its smaller and softer than a trance kick..and the bassline was from minimoog its actualy long one bar notes with side chain so its not exactly umpa umpa..its less drive than the usual one but it has a massive sub freq and its a bit diffrent..

i listened my old vinyls and when i come back to the psy of today the basslines are so boring !i think removing the bassline on the kick is about laziness of getting the mix right with it ,but in the end it s very limiting the creativity . in this forum i don t know if you remember but some already posted some incredible clip of basslines playing with the kick , i think a lot can be done in this direction .(combined with different note size and maybe portamento ,it can make things very groovy )

This is some of my new style.
One of the things I really work my ass off on is making the bassline extremely compicated, and not-yer-average-Kbbb-bullsquash.

I'd appreciate any kind of feedback!
