crap i'm sorry man, I was sick for a week recently, it's really the suck! I hope you feel better soon, and I'll let you know how the "sonar track experience" turns out. Get lots of sleep, thats what helped me |

I have another sonar question. Is there anything similar to the audio pool in cubase? Basically just somewhere you have all your audio organized? Or do you just have to use the import function right into the sequencer? |

Well on paper the only thing that really makes Sonar seem more attractive than other sequencers is the Active control & 64 bit engine..

Tracktion and Project 5 support 64 bit mixing too.

no way to just duplicate, you have to just hit ctrl and drag to the new spot you want to copy it. This kinda bothers me. |

I gave up on trying to write a song with it. I will admit the program is very capable. I never got stuck with no way to get somewhere, it just seemed like there were too many steps to get there alot of times though. I'm sure you could get quicker at it though.
Out of all the sequencers this is the first that I didn't feel like I came to a dead end (besides cubase).
I would recommend this software to anybody. I personally just flow with cubase, but this is a great alternative, and if something like cubase doesn't seem quite right for you, then definitely give this a try. |

I tried version 6 and wanted to let you guys know of a great work around I figured out for using ACT and a controller that doesn't have alot of free spots for templates...or any at all like a synth or somthing like that you are using for a controller.
I ran into a problem where a synth (like discovery) would have dedicated cc#s for the controls. So if I programed one synth with act and used only #'s that didn't control that synth already. Once I moved to another synth then the controls would end up controlling some other dedicated cc# on that synth when I didn't want it to. I have a cme uf5, so I technically only have one "template" I can use, which is why I figured this out.
So you set up act the normal way, assign all your controls to the ACT program.
Then go in and assign the synth controls you want to control with ACT (for the synth) Do this for all your synths, don't worry if it controls other knobs by default.
For discovery, I had to set up the macro controls in the synth rack first, because the learn function for act wouldn't detect when I was turning a knob on the discovery gui. So I set up the knobs underneath the synth in the rack to control what I wanted. I click learn, move the macro control I set up then the knob on the hardware and turn off learn. Hit yes on the box that pops up.
Once you have the controls set up how you want, go to your midi track that controls the synth. In the fx box, right click and choose midi/Cakewalk/ Midi Filter or something like that (it's very close). Then when that opens, select "CC" so the box lights up, then move the top control on "CC" down so it says 0.
That way when you can play the keyboard which will play the synth, but when you move a knob it will only effect it when it's the focus, that way it's only ACT effecting the synth controls not it's dedicated CC#s
More or less this is a way to bypass dedicated CC#s on soft synths and hardware working together.
Though I would share so all my hard work wouldn't go to waste. If you find this good for you, I spent alot of time to come to what seems like a simple conclusion.
Best of luck....now back to Cubase, I'm gonna make some music hehe |

No unfortunately not. I have all my samples organised in folders and just drag them into Sonar with the mouse (when not using a sampler of course). I'm lobying to get an AudioPool type feature in Sonar.

Just do CTRL-C CTRL-V and give the number of repetitions you want.

is it normal that during playback, when moving e.g. the looping markers, the sound drops out for some short time, to continue right after?
thanks for any answers from anyone who has observed the same on sonar 6.

and, anybody encountered this message: "audio engine has been stopped unexpectedly"?
i see this sometimes, even though nothing is playing. (during times when this msg does not show up, everything works like a charm)
probably i'm the only one?
cheers all,

Aha! The whole idea of needing a clip to be able to input notes is one of my gripes with Cubase. Just open a Piano Roll View (PRV) on any MIDI track and put in the notes that you want. The clips will be created automaticly. Also you can just scroll left and right in the PRV with no restriction at clip boundaries. The PRV opens the whole MIDI track and not a particular clip or anything as restricting as that. In other words, you don't need to create empty clips.
If you want to merge two or more clips into one clip, select them, right click and press B (or choose Bounce to clip). They will become one clip.
If you have specific workflow questions (or anything else) feel free to ask.

hi there, UnderTow! I realize this is a Cubase-ish question, so forgive me I see, this grouping of clips seems to work fine with MIDI. But if i want to do this with audio, i end up with bounced audio, not exactly what i wanted when grouping audio clips. I know, doing so is Cubase-ish, but is there a way to group audio into containers in Sonar 6? (For whatever reasons ).
Best wishes to you, and a happy new year (a bit late).
cheers,
dtd

I wonder how you guys write the drum midi parts in sonar and especially how you manage the velocities. The fact that you can't select only the velocities of one pitch or selected notes makes things difficult.
I find very easy to work with drum maps and not just drop samples into the sequencer.
Have you found any workarounds or is there some other way which i 'm missing? |

And something easier (I guess): How you turn off the dialogs every time you do copy/paste?
Thanx everyone for sharing your knowledge. |
