Respect!
The guitar and bass sound of those first albums, plus his voice... awesome and timeless. I still know all the lyrics  I was lucky to catch them on their Queen is Dead tour (1983?)
Funny cos I was so into these albums at the same time as into the speed metal coming out in those days. Slayer and Smiths would be in my tape deck all the time (as well as New Order and Voivod).
I also think it's awesome Johnny Mar (Smith's guitarist) filled in for the Pretender's guitarist after he died. I thought he fit in perfectly.
