Of course there are and many locals who realy play bad music or play music which doesn't fit to their time because they just prepared a 15 tracks set in their home
|
|
why, internationals play the time that they must?
it s a matter of organization mate. who calls who and gives what orders.

I believe that a big part of local djs have a very big idea for their selves and they always play the big hits just bacause people wants it..they afraid to play something different or more experimental because they think they will loose their "fame".

i don t find any land under this opinion. the opposite i think.

This topic is made for general discussion about the electronic music parties in Greece.
I said a conclusion that came to my mind from many years of participation in these parties.
Not for a specific issue but generally speaking...
What i express is something that i have felt many many times...
|

I've been going to parties in Greece and abroad since 1994 and my conclusion is that Greeks still have a long way to go.
Its not that we are not capable of doing it, its the shortcomings of our "civil wars", our egos ( apo to gamisi mexri thn trance eimaste oi kaluteroi) and the whole "my trance is better than yours" attitude, which is evident from personal conversations to on line trance forums like this one.

Of course is matter of the organization about the time table, and many foreign djs have the experience to turn the things if the previous local play 5 bmp faster music..Actually my point is different at all,for example in a 2 day greek festival some years ago some locals played both days, and they played exactly the same tracks one after the other both times..this means something at all and if I remember wright they played in different day times..So I prefer the foreign dj who will play mostly a freestyle set with known and unknown tunes creating a good party flow and not the local one who says "I'll play this top 10 and I don't give a shit.." For sure some times the opposite happens but unfortunatelly very rare..

So when someone attends an event featuring Atmos or Deedrah or X Dream or Bamboo Forest or Tristan or Emok or i dont know who else then he is attending the world tour of the stars or something?
There is no such a thing as a star system in the psy trance system, yes some artists/djs are very well known but our scene has no stars and even the most well known artists like Astrix for example are very nice and friendly people who behave like normal people and not like rock stars or anything like that.
Last time Astrix was in Athens he was dancing in the middle of the dancefloor and chating with the people and taking photographs with them and even received some cds from some people. This is not how super stars act.
There are only 2-3 people/groups in the scene that behave like super stars and personally i havent worked with them ever and probably will never do in the near future at least. Also i am very happy that they dont visit Athens often and one of them at all in the last 4 years.
People just visit the artists they like and if going to see Tristan (who is among the most popular and oldest artists in the scene) is considered as following the star system and trend then sorry but i can only laugh with this claim.

i read all the opinions and i agree with most of them.
the message is to try cultivate "our scene" because they are many persons (djs) that have great conception of the music, so they could play mixed stuff (from many artists and labels) and much cheaper appart from that we will have a standing scene. -_-_-_-_-_-_

There is a new batch of young blood that is getting in trance music in Greece though. There are two projects, Pause and Conwerter that are preparing albums that will be released relatively soon. Hopefully more people will get inspired to push on with the stuff they are working and other people that will start getting into music.
The greek music scene is growing from the inside and if the people are thirsty enough and love the music enough, there will soon be Greek artists that will be on a par with a lot of good foreign artists.

..as for a reply to the first post
well in my opinion
trance is a Global phenomeno
and since i listen to styles and grooves
from all around the world ..
How can i be satisfied watching the progress of only greek projects?
How many times i have to listen to the same artist?
What new will he give me?
And finally how many greeks are out there
worth listening to..
sadly my friend , i can count them in one hand
You are influenced , you gather information
by listening to fresh tunes..from creative music minds and souls ,no matter where they are from ..
And hopefully one day you'll want to make something new by yourself..to contribute!
This is what do us better , thats why you see so many talents grow up in greece the last years cause of our scene and our international parties belive me in that..
You want to talk about djs?
well for me there are not more than 4-5 real djs in greece ..
nectarios described how a real professional labal dj is and what kind of music he delivers
From every point i see it you are wrong .. sorry

Nooooooo.....at least on two hands...
anyway, one of the best parties I attended in greece, had a full-greek line up....Polyphonia, Orestis, Drury Nevil...etc Being from Italy, I WISH we would have live performances like these ones from our own country... I totally agree that greece has some of the most talented and creative minds, especially for the night-time trance, IMO of course, but I think its a must to alternate and mix up the two (greek and non-greek)in a party . ..
Im sure that if there were only local artists playing almost all the time, this topic would be about "why dont we call kindzazda?psykovsky?derango?...etc"...because no matter how many great artists there are in greece, they cant make enough music for you to hear new tunes at every weekend event...
there this much good music in greece, and there much more good music outside of greece(quantity wise....quality is up to personal taste obviously)
but when someone books Cosmo and RajaRam for the same event like it happened in athens, than I totally agree with you JediKnight, rather cultivate the greek psy...much rather see orestis polyphonia play over and over again.
seems to me the greek scene its getting back to its better times tho...more parties than a couple of years back, and more variety...
I wish we had all that quality:)
ciao

Candyflip from what i heard is going to close soon due to the bad market situation.
My label Exposure is closed as a label and operates solely as a booking agency.
Loopsnoo Records is closed.
Oktava is preety much inactive with the last release 4 years ago and the previous one 6 years ago.
Headstick didnt released anything last year and i wouldnt be suprised if they are closed too.
Moonsun is closed as Nick said in public couple months ago.
Mental Cruelty is closed since Sofia is having a family and she lost money due to a bad distributor with her first and only release.
5 fingers are enough i guess to count whats going on in Greece labelwise at the moment.
In any case though it doesnt matter how many labels there are in our country because this doesnt prove if we got good artists or not.
I mean Israel has 100 labels but only 4-5 of them worth mentioning.

If you could see behind your 5 fingers you would have found that tens of artists and djs and projects exist and live among us and they are supreme!!!

You mentioned the names of some labels,i kindly and briefly described the situation of each one of them and how more than half of them are closed or inactive saying that LABELWISE (not artistswise or musicwise or whatever but just labelwise) we could count the situation in Greece by using just five fingers and further saying that this proves nothing anyway because the number of labels doesnt prove if a country has a lot of good djs and artists.I didnt insult you anywhere in my post,i read what you said carefuly,i answered respecting your opinion and i backed up what i said with facts and you come up with nothing to say except insulting me and calling me ignorant while trying to make fun of me?
If we had this discussion face to face and you dared to speak to me like that for no reason at all then my five fingers and the rest of my hand would be on your face and then we would see who is a wiseguy and who is not.
Learn first to show some respect KID to the ones that talk to you with respect and then open topics asking about things that you have no clue about.
Now go to sleep KID because you got school tomorrow,i hope they teach you some manners there.
And then you wonder why Dino Psaras doesnt answer to your questions........

don t get away of the point. we are not paying all the attention to the signed artists and djs only.
i think some people here cannot see what JediKnight targets, and go round and round.
