Ive been thinking a few times about this little thingy, alot of the music in itself is of course the good quality and sharp clean sounds. I use Reason2 on a motherboard sound card (dont laugh im moving on ) yet i always get great feedback on how good quality i get on my tracks, anybody who knows what im doing right lol... Cus is it worth spending lots of money on a SoundCard and Som Monitors when its already in a good production..
PEACE!
A

There's allways room for improvements. ask arie how his life changed when he bought that Waldorf Q Synth.. sure, he could still use VSTi's, but now he can have a true pro sound at work to muster, hence enhancing the sound quality.

when things come to an end... all that matters... is your ears
of course a 2000$ studio equipment would have much better results... don't you think..?

...it's not what you have but what you know. Like: you could make incredible food with the worst kitchen wares compared with someone who has everything but can't seperate the yoke from the white.
see.

In my opinion of course quality maters, but the most important is not the output and what you ear directly from the sound card cos in your house it can sound great but then if you listen to it on a big PA or in others ppl sound system it can sound really bad, and also, you can do all the track on a bad sound card but then you can import it, to a nice computer with nice sound card with digital out put connected to a nice digital mixer, do a little arragements and you'll have quality for sure.
The most important for me is your sound fonts if they're clean then you'll have a clean production for sure no matter what program you use, the only thing you probably have to worry is the final master.
And remember all the great musicians of our time have killer expensive studios for some reason right?

hey
indeed the quality does matters, but if your music got nothing *special* inside then even a very real equipment wont do a thing for you. It works opposite too - if you got an interesting music, people will love it even if the quality is not THAT good
I guess there must be kinda compromise between good sound quality and enjoyable matherial inside of your tracks

I guess that switching to 24-bit s.card will
improve your tracks quality...
P.s
Monitors are your ears, listen to them! |

Well getting monitors are going to give a boost to your sound. And since you're not recording anything, having that onboard sound card is not that bad. After all, VSTi's work on the CPU, not sound card.

Another thing....
I worked once with SB Live! Dig...
You wont believe how much your tracks will
improve if you will buy a pro-s.card, it's
a different sound...!!!!
I was in shock! |

I work with my "motherboard soundcard" only ,
because i don't have something better , but i use it
mostly to preview the sound, i don't use the card's
AD converters to input a sample, i do all my sound
editing digitally and i transfer it to my Akai .
So u can use a sampler as multichannel soundcard
with quality sound .
Ofcource it's not 24/96 but Akai's converters sound
really nice, and it's more than enuff for my needs .
About mastering i have to say that mastering can't
improve so much yo bad-quality recorded tune , the
sound needs to be good-quality from the begining .
So, when u use a $10 soundcard u can get really
good results if u don't use internal AD/DA's, i mean
if u work with already recorded samples and sounds
Here i have a "?" : How can a cheap soundcard
affect on the use of VTI's ? Is it the same digital
story as Ad/DA's, or it's something else ?
EZ ,
Peace.

im sure you re very happy with how you sound right now, just like i was some time ago. But when i got a 24 bits soundcard and EVOLVED to logic I saw the difference in front of me dude. Now people will tell you it's cool and maybe you wont listen but when you change you will remember what people used to say. Im not saying your sound has no quality(i havent heard it so there's no point to that) but it would improve more than you think and that's personal experience. |
