hey people, hows it been??
ever wondered wht is a perfect start to a djset?

i mean how and which tracks sounds great when a dj starts playing?? ie if a dj is playing a full on set, wht tracks are best for an opening song, or how should the start be, a slow start which builds to fullon, or a direct full on start, or if its dark style , wht kinda start should it be?

the 1st song creates the mood for the entire gig, thats why its very imp to have the perfect start, so let every one know wht you want a start to be like??

I believe that a DJ should start his set with a track that has a intro in it. Kinda makes it feel like he is introducing himself to the crowd and also makes the people know that a new DJ is coming in to play.
I know a lot of the DJ's like to mix a kicking track right into the previous DJ's set, but personally that is not how I like it. Its nice to appreciate the previous DJ and the whopper of a track that he ends his set in. The next DJ should build his own story from the start, not take it over and redo it.           :: Life can be as bitter as dragon tears

I also like the fact that a Dj plays an long intro and then starts expanding his set after but it all depends what time he starts and what music is played before him!

I usually use a track with a long and very good intro - also, I prefer the track to be very basic, not overly melodic/psychedelic/anything but still powerfull to make you dance.... Something with maybe a really catchy beat to it, almost progressive in nature (no matter the genre)

The intro part is important, because the beginning of a set will decide where you can go and also set a general mood on which you must build.
Its also a splendid opportunity to get to use one of those long intros which might not work well in the middle of the set.... (I do use intro mixing in the middle sometimes, but doing it again and again will rob the set of its energy)
Its really great to be able to include an intro that is mindblowing , beatmixing mostly prohibit this. unless you actually start a track on the last beat of the previous track and both are the same bpm - then you will have a silent beatmix, which I often also use.

Its not enough with a long intro, it must be a suberb long intro - or else, people will leave the dancefloor and loose interest in the music.

A favourite of mine would be Mr Peculiar "Emerging Light" for a darker sounding psychedelic and full on set.

everything that has dense atmospheres and a longsome evolution...
or other styles of music often fit well as starters in psytrance (gothic, darkwave, chillout, classical...)

i agree wit Dragongurl. A dj shud begin his own story from the start.

I try to use a lotta diferent effects as an intro. Im tryin to integrate some news-flashes as an intro.

Another idea im workin on is beginnin a set with a classical piece. Maybe some Chopin.

A lotta my dj friends in Goa use a prayer as a start.

My fav track to open wit wud be 'Koxbox Vs. Synthetic ---Last Days of Kristiana'

Long evocative intros that set the mood are the way to go, imho. The first song should be distinct... something like Prometheus - Cambodia, or Panick - Teriyki Terror.

I usually make my own intros with weird trippy soundscapes, idm and experimental, and some records with ppl narrating strange stories But a good track to start would be

Etnoscope Metalixir.
