Well, I have a dell laptop, the Vostro 1400 with RICOH chipset. I just got a firewire soundcard that the firewire doesnt even knows it is inserted into the 4pin firewire plugin.
I know that those laptops are problematic, and for sure there are people here who experienced already problems (hopefully some solved them).

Did u succeed to solve them? How? Lets share that important information.

Btw i have a presonus Firebox....

Been browsing the internet a long time for this. There doesnt seem to be a solution to this problem as for yet. People are waiting for BIOS updates that might help, but its not released yet (as far as I know).

Pcmcia/pcexpress cards does not seem to solve the problem, even with a chip like TI (or other advised chipset by audiointerface companies).

I have an Inspiron 9400, also with Ricoh chipset. I use it with a Focusrite Saffire. It works, but my latencies are crap (never under 40ms with asio) and I get occational glitch and other digital artifakts.

Hi Misha,we recently talked with you in icq about sound interface tc konnekt weellll this is no problem from Dell this is problem of dice2 ieee1394 chipset in you presonus interface. Firebox's series build on Tc electronic dice2 custom chipset like a tc konnekt and have similar problems. Most solutions:

1.Try this patch: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=CA0F2007-18B5-4112-8BD6-8BF4BD3130B9&displaylang=en

2.Heavy weapon: change SP2 1394 drives to SP1 http://www.sendspace.com/file/0un1a4 , inside.cmd file. run this for change.sys and other files of drives. Warning! cmd kills you SP2 drivers cashe sp2.cab.in windows directory (For windows no restored sp2 drives again from cashe)Maybe try a simple rename but sometime this is not help! After this if you install some hardware in you system you need to insert distreb cd with win xp in you dvd drive.

Trying without success to download the microsoft patch, it always writes me that its temporarily offline.

If someone upload it , would be awesome.

Brain Hacked, do you have already m-audio 410? If yes, just go to the store with your soundcard and check if it works on it. I think its the best solution.

Alex thanks a lot!

XP SP3 doesn't change a thing on my laptop...
It doesn't even light the soundcard's POWER!
