But that's Techno, not Psytrance.

You're asking for a contradiction then.

By definition, something which is new cannot also be something which is old (psytrance)

I would say to the OP, look at the releases of Pure Perception records, especially the works of Bioluminescence. It's a very good fusion of the psytrance aesthetic with a more techno/tribal house beat and it certainly doesn't sound like anything that I've heard of before (correct me if I'm wrong)

You cannot ask for something to break outside of the box (innovate) and also still be inside the box (conform to your definition of "psytrance")

I disagree with that. Innovative artists rarely materialize with something new out of nothing. They usually come from a background in a particular type of music (or genre).
Innovative musicians from the punk scene emerged from punk rock. They took the freedom they found in that music and ran with it.
Look at the innovative artists within psytrance. They came from psytrance, obviously. and are still categorized as psytrance.

Also, innovation doesn't always mean a fusion of psytrance and some other style (techno, for example). It can just be original music that emerged from one genre. A morphing of the genre, if you will.

Yes, you can. Let’s say I’d ask what is new and exciting in darkpsy. I’d be happy with a link to some forest trance. And I would have a “wtf?” moment if somebody pointed me to the latest schranz act. Wouldn’t you?

It's all cool. I didn't have anything against your selection (and will gladly chack it out tomorrow). I was arguing with Shiranui: finding something innovative does not have to involve moving to a different genre. One can - like you did - but does not have to. I think my example - "Fourthought" - is pretty innovative, although it's 2 years old. On the other hand, this examples works for Shiranui's point too, as it's hard to place this music into a neat style box.

Mr Ocelot is coming up with some nice music. Maybe not entirely innovative, but good music nonetheless.
