realy not pleasent situation u live at Shroomy, as u understand i have no sollution for ya here, since its seems no sollution at all (is it the one of rare situations u have nothing to do.. sad..), i mainly talk to our dear Israel's citizens that have Lovefield 5 compilation two weeks after it released at most north town here, some 20000 population one (i was prety much smile ass off when i recieve it there during my yearly army serves). 30$ to cd its way too much, even to addicted person as me. hope soon things will more smoothy there at your place
and more, even the 85 nis. that just like 16 $ its prety much also, so DOMO rec (that is also distributers of many titles here) have a stall at different parties at very discount prices (10$) to make ppl be able buy what they like. but also at this prices interest to buy cds not so big.
so there is a sollution to too expensive cds/records, new kind of distribution. im sure its about time with the prices u have there.
we here will work our ass off Believe your soul ! |

Sorry Anders but i dont feel you've innovated anything in this thread... add it along to the other threads about mp3's and internet killing trance... its like asking the US to shift their interest from oil to solar and wind cause its "better"... this wont happen, same as this: downloading music from the net wont stop, its too easy to do it, and people have established the pipelines for it long ago... its hard to make a shift in mindset... good luck Don Quixote (Don Kishot). Guess what it costs to order one cd from psyshop.com without cc to Finland.. let's see..
the Younger Brother album with cash on delivery..
44.54 € !!
at post office theý'll probably add like 3€ service payment and if you have really bad luck also some bs tax..
trance-shop.com is another story cause you can pay with bank transfer method.. but they really never have what i wont..

I think its time for the artists of our scence to come up with a new plan to get their music out to the world. The year is 2003 and its time to take advantage of our technology and not complain about it.
I think the first step that can be made is to give people like Shroomy and Traveller the chance to get the original music they want at a reasonable price. How? Using the same exact devices we all use to download albums and burn them.
Artists should start thinking about cutting out the middle men and putting their music for sale online for people to buy and then burn. I personally don't care about how a CD is packaged is how nice the artwork inside is. I care about the music in the highest quality possible.
This solves a big problem for hardcore psytrancers about old and rare CD's like Hallucinogen- Twisted and Hux Flux- Cryptic Crunch. These guys could be selling their impossible to find albums for 8-10 dollars and give people a chance to hear them for a reasonable price. If only 1000 people download it then thats already 8000-10000 dollars at almost zero cost.
This solution isn't perfect of course and it won't appeal to everyone but it might be a concept that could be altered and used in the future. I know guys like Infected, Simon and Son Kite could make a killing selling their live sets (bootlegs) on their websites. Or how about compiling your own CD of only tracks that you want from a labels website? That's the ultimite feedback machine for a label and an artist.
Something new needs to be tried. Talk is cheap and lives are expensive, music should be somewhere in the middle.

good point, apocalypse, but as berserx pointed out, it'll be like trying to get president bush to stop eating pretzels at the oval office.
Andres' research is a funny-sad picture of the entire music industry. can a person really change a multi-billion dollar industry? some would argue it's redundant to even try. others would claim change is inevidable (except from a vending machine). My theory is that only time'll tell. in the meantime, people will still download, people will still be jerks about it, and others would still buy CD's, and be jerks about the other guys too (no pun intended anyone).

ye, all kool.
but u have to be a cd seller for one night then u will release what is going on here.. when 80% of the ppl who come to the stall say thing like "well, this one i downloaded, this one also, also this this this this this this this"... or "its fucking old !!" to cd that released two weeks ago.. if it was small number of ppl that u can ignore it was kool, but in fact its almost everyone !! its annoying, its disgusting, its true..
now talk whatever u want guys, if u want to protect this..
and dont label the artists who turn to house/techno/whatever scene, they dont do it for money.. but for respect !!
respect yourself, respect others work !!
and again i dont say nothing against ppl who just cant get the music at original cds since they live in special geographic regions.. i dont say cds cheap.. i dont say never dl.. just be smart dude and get that if u will not support what u like, nobody will do it.. no support = no interest (your tripomania is nice, not make artists work hard at studio, not pay their rent).. so u choose what to do, but think twice before u do it.. Here it happens the same as Shroomy and traveller; there are really few shops selling psytrance cds in Portugal, and the ones we have are very very limited, so we have to buy them via Psyshop, and that makes a CD cost around 50 Euros. Now, who will give that much money for an album? The minimum wage here is 300 euros! Also, who will buy compilations when they only really like one track? Of course, the solution is to download the track and that's it... I'm not defending traders here, but you guys sometimes are kinda unfair

I've never heard about those shops - the only ones selling trance albums are Ketuh Recs at Porto, Good Mood I believe in Lisbon... and never heard of more, but I live really far from Lisbon anyway - I think one city selling psytrance albums in a whole country isn't enough at all. I went to FNAC in Porto last week and they had like 4 or 5 really old trance albums, mixed with techno and house. Definitely not good.

People just like getting stuff for free.
I went before a couple of days to Discobole which is one of the biggest record stores in Athens specialized in trance and generally dance and electronic music.
I checked the new releases and got 6 cd's that featured names that i already knew their style and that i thought that i might like. Also i asked my friends that work there to suggest me some things that they liked from the new releases so they suggested me another 3-4 releases.
I got all 10-11 cd's went to a cd player, got the headphones and started playing them without anyone interupting me while i did so or saying to me to pass the cd player to someone else to test other cd's,the same policy applies to every customer and not only to me that i am a regular customer and also friend of the people that own and run the place.I spended 5 minutes for each cd in order to get an idea of what is going on and finnally bought all of them plus some more commercial stuff that i liked.
Everything fine and nice until now, people in Athens have the chance to listen, then decide and then buy if they like what they listen.
BUT what happened next was absofuckinglutely amazing.A guy comes with 3 cd's spends half an hour with them, writes some notes on his mobile phone and then gives them back to the guy that was behind the selling desk.
The guy behind the selling desk asked 'the customer' if he didnt liked anything at all and in total surprise the answer of 'the customer' was the following: 'No i liked many tracks but i just wrote them down and will download them from the internet'.
I was tottally shocked and i realised that people just dont want to spend their money on something that they can get for free.
Its not about the high prices of the cd's,its not about getting a cd that might contain bad music, its not about anything else.People just want to get free stuff without caring about the consequences of their actions, they even feel proud for getting something for free (or at least less price than buying it).
Final conclusion?
When people do bad things they just try to find some excuses for what they do.Like when i was young and broke a crystal vase and blamed my younger brother that couldnt even talk at that age.Its the same with the music situation, people like downloading music instead of buying it and then they find cheap excuses to explain themselves.Yes the prices are high, the music that gets released is not so good but thats the 50% fault that belongs to the producers, labels and distributors. The other 50% fault is on us the audience.First we will change our self and attitude and then we will try to change the others.

the reality is simple for me.. most people cant buy all the music we want,, so we copy it,, cos its easy,, not much thought invloved,,
the trick is,, to get poeple to buy more cd's than they usually do,, even if they copy more too,, and in the end,, the sad truth is, that as as an artist i make my living off performances rather than track sales,, so really the labels are just a means to get my music out there... the problem is that it has to be profitable or nobody is gonna be able to distribute it,, and we may all have to resort to coppied cd's and mp3's as we watch helplessly as our scene retracts back underground,,
just buy one more cd than usual in a six month cycle,, i know some people that buy none,, if they all bought one,, some record labels sales would double!! labels dont need big sales to keep it going,, maybe 2000 copies worldwide is enought to make the next one worthwhile,, so think about that,, we don't all need to buiy all the cd's we get,, we dont even need to feel guilty for copying,, (unless as anders pointed out,, you are a WORM who trades fake mp3s - fools - ) -
--JUST BUY ONE CD EVERY 3 MONTHS --
it will be worth it,, you might have to look a bit harder for the one you really want,, but do it out of principle |
