my 'new thing' is sidechain to the equlizer and not to any compressor
use the peak controler simply to lower 50hz wide on the bass

every EQ that permits automatization of its bands... but if you are not on FL you will have to write down the automatization yourself. every time the kik hits...
you can see a tutorial on tom cosm page.           Sound:

hmm isn't there an eq out which have an key input for that purpose?
automatin the eq is possible but i'm too lazy for that kind of workflow....           http://soundcloud.com/seamoon

Anyone compress their leads through the snare (or vice versa)? I've heard of this technique to get rid of some peaks and just wondering if anyone had success with it or found a way around it.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

well there is one, with peak controller and everything, look here:
http://www.bluecataudio.com/Tutorials/Home/

but I think it is more pain to make it work right, than just draw the correct curve for the eq auto, and than just duplicate it several times and than duplicate the group also several times for less than a minute, than trying to recreate those tutorials... but maybe you can have success and it should work           Sound:

You could also achieve this by splitting the signal into two bands and sidechain compressing one of the bands, no?

Cubase SX 2/3 sidechain compression using Waves C1 (tutorial made by Mantik)

1. Create a Audio-Stereo-Group called "Sidechain".
Install "Waves C1 Comp-sc" in the Sidechain-Group.
Put the Output-Panning of this group into MONO (right click on the panner, select "stereocombined panner" and drag both stereochannels into the center)

2. Edit 2 kicks which play always at the same time using Midi-Notes of the duplicated kick. Just take your original kick (from your drumsampler for example), duplicate it and hit both Kicks always.

3. Root the 2 kicks into 2 different channels.Rename one channel to "KICK" (the original one) and the other one you give the name "TRIGGER".

You can also see that KICK is routet to the masterchannel of the Soundcard. TRIGGER is routet to a Group called "Sidechain". This is important, do it!

Maybe you allready recognized that the channel TRIGGER is balanced hard to the left. Do it! You will see why.

Only one of our two kicks is sent to the listeners ear. The other generates an internal signal for the sidechaing group. The TRIGGER-kick sends a signal which triggers the envelope and the dynamics.

4. Locate your bassline-channel. In my example its an audiochannel called "Bass".

You just have to do 2 things: Send the Output to the Group "Sidechain"

And put the Panning to the hard right.

There are 2 Signals now routing into the Sidechaining-Stereo-Group. On the left channel is our TRIGGER-Kick and on the right channel is the "Bass".

5. Open The Sidechaingroup. edit the plugin WAVES C1 comp-SC.

Change the Key mode to L -> R, now the left input is the key for the right output. This means that the TRIGGER-kick which is sent on the left channel generates an envelope which manipulates a signal on the right channel (the "Bass"). We want to manipulate the bassline with the envelope of the TRIGGER-Kick.

Edit smart hard parameters for Treshold, Ratio, Attack and Release. You will see that the visualation-diagramm shows a movement. The Y-Axis shows the volume-signal on the light side and the X-Axis shows the volume-signal on the right side.

In this example (taken from a real production) all audiosignals from the right side (TRIGGER) above 34.9 dB (Threshold) will reduce the signal of the right side (Bass) with an Attack of 2.51 / Release: 244 / Ratio: 4.99:1

Make experiments with it and listen how the wave of the bassline drops away when the Kick hits. If you listen only the bassline on the right channel you forgot to set the Output of the Group into MONO. (see Step 1)

If you did all correctly.... enjoy! Make experiments, finetune the parameters.

I hope that this would be of help.

Thet is origanl post by Mantik. Basically you need to load your kick in to sampler twice and rout it to difrent chanels. Then in your midi just write 4/4 of two kicks playing same time. One goes to master out second to group sidechain.

I want to clear this a litle bit because it was a litle problem for me understanding. If someone after this have still problems I can make screens and upload them.
