As this is my first thread I thought id start a new topic, I love those wacked out samples about LSD or aliens that most psytrance tunes seem to have, but also some of the stranger ones that ive heard as well. Speaking for myself I play a DVD in my computer and record the output directly in Cooledit pro 2. I can get a very clean recording this way. I then clean it up, and use Waves Doubler 2 and Waves Mondomod. I split the sample up into 2 channels and effect each channel slightly differently, making a weird phazing delay effect. I also like to use the sample quite dry as if you effect it too much it becomes more of a sfx and inaudiable unless its played by itself.

Have you found a good place to look for samples/quotes? And what techniques do you use to proccess them?

Pitching up/down heavily always opens up possibilities with a sample

if it's a voce sample that starts with a vowel i like to make series of short stabs (1/32th or 1/64th) that go up and down the piano roll or sometime on the same note... The rhythm is most important, sounds nice as background...

put delay on a sample or part of the sample, record the delay, then reverse it and put it right in front of the voice sample... Or don't reverse it and leave it where it is... combine with reverb, open up the wet of the reverb on some words, nice effect too... Or use only the reverb and no delay... U can reverse the reverb too... This kind of tricks are used A LOT in psytrance...

Anything goes really... gates can chop up samples that aren't in rhythm so they seem to be in rhythm... U can also timestretch or pitch the samples to fit the rhythm... vocoders and formant filters are great on voices, autotune can be used as an effect too if u stretch it's algorithm to it's limits... Distortion might not be as good on voices, but on most other kinds of samples it could sound great... Anything goes...

well obviously, the easiest solution is to think of some whacko text and speak it yourself in the microphone. or get a friend to do it. and if you don't have a microphone, plug your earphones in the mic jack and speak it into the earphones (i know this sounds strange but it works, quality will suffer though and it's mono). and then apply some of the tricks fregle mentioned.
