Essential in my experience for pads is a good reverb. And sometimes it works wonders to add distortion. What I often do is just add a distortion on an insert on a randon preset and just skip presets of your synth. They will sound so different that you usually end up with all kinds of new sounds and ideas.

seeing as it requires max4live....no
unless you figure out some devious way in which to use it without paying for it. That'd be weird!

Get a nice timbre that you want. Set slow attack and release. Get the darn thing evolving slow with all the modulations youve got(LFOs, FM, Chorus, Phaser, Flangers, Take out all your effects out could be vocoders, unison spread and detune number of voices can add some noise for sweeping effects with resonance check for different waveforms). Reverbs and delay is not a sin also pads 99% are wide as hell so don't be scared of phasing. All depends what do you want it to sound like dark or bright or ambient or whatever. Chameleon5000 is great for pads or Absynth but anything can go. Something with lots of endlessly evolving, stuff morphings etc. Now if it's the usual sidechained heavenly pads well same thing. A pad can be so many things and the techniques are very different from pad to pad. Absolutely no rules. Just be creative. Am i speaking chinesse ?
Also if you don't know where to start take a preset and start tweaking it from there and get inspired http://soundcloud.com/magimix-1/chilling-forest-whispers Wierd shit happens :)

My pick for textures is Omnisphere. Can't find/make something that will sound as good as that.
I also would recommend to cut it into some small pieces and spread it all over the place but the center(I mean, make loads of different sounds following the same line but instead of have it playing continuously, just cut some small pieces of it n mix it all up).
I never go crazy with EQ's as well, just some low cut n some small notches on weird frequencies.(I normally use the Channel EQ from Logic)
Reverb here depends on what i'm willing to do, I always have some auxiliary channels with different kinds of reverb(small/mid/large/plate etc.) and, to be honest, I will just jump from one to another till I find what fulfill my expectations.(I normally use the native reverbs from Logic as well, probably someone will recommend some better stuff here, but Logic ones just matches my expectations).
Try to mix up with some different delays settings on auxiliary channels as well.
Another thing that I often use is a plugin from Soundtoys called Decapitator, It's really good to bring some life to your sound if it's sounding hidden.
I use some soft compression plus some sidechain assigned to the kick to pump it a bit, and also would try to make some different kinds of gates to it as well. As I said before, different patterns + different sounds, cut it in some small pieces, try to mix it all up and spread it all over the place.
Can't think about anything else at the moment, hope it can be helpful to someone,
Ahh i wish they would have that for pc, looks awesome. I hear so much good things about omnisphere, maybe its time to look into it, otherwise than omnisphere do you anyhave recommendation of good drone/texture synthesizer?

Hi guys, I was just wondering, it might be helpful to someone. If you guys want, I can upload some Logic projects from some tunes i made or still unfinished.
Maybe it can help some newcomers producers(not professionals since I don't think my stuff sounds very professional).
Anyway, i just uploaded on soundcloud a sample of a tune that i never finished that have some kind of the sounds ppl here are looking for I think.
Both of them you guys can feel free to finish it, take parts of it, rmx it. Anyway, do anything you like.
The angels one is super clean, it might be good to work on it.
But please, just ask for me to upload only one at time, I have only a 256kb connection, if I have to upload both it will take too long.
