Study music!!!!, really i see no other way. Some people have the talent to make music without really knowing much about music theory but really, usually music is created by musicians. U have to learn chords and scales in order to know wich ones will sound hypnotic, dark, happy, melancolic etc....

Just try

Studing music can help you a lot but even having a good ear will help you out!!

Anyway a good start will be creating the pads and when you have the mood you search start working with a lead and some helping-leads..
Save what you do and try chaning it over and over, you will learn many tricks keeping only one melody and find out how to get it deeper in the mood.           --

Hi everyone. I think that forums such as this one not only help a lot of people and the music world at large to go forward, but also are years ahead in bringing forward days of ONE EARTH and ONE PEOPLE living in peace and harmony, sharing and caring for each other. Respect!

I have read most of the threads in this section, and they are great, but mostly deal with the technical side of trance, I was wondering if we should comunicate more about MELODY? That is, the actual notes, scales, harmonies and progressions we love in psytrance?

Anyone has any ideas thoughts of the subject? What scales you love, what progressions you'de use? I mean, once, lets say, that we got the best kicks and bass and lead sounds all sitting well, we still need to PLAY a MELODY...

For me personaly I love uplifting 'morning' psy that has a melody that really takes you higher and higher... that moves higher and higher until you feel you melt away (or was it that paper I was told to eat?). Tips and thoughts anyone?

And what about Bass melody? And how you'de fit it with the lead's melody? In the bass section its all about technical sound issues, how about some tips about notation?

I also don't know much about music theory but it looks like the best part of the process is the search...

by classical influences it should folow the melody(except if doubles the dominant_5th if i'm not mistaken), personaly i prefer not to follow it and in trance nowadys that is +- kind of a rule?!!?
