I figured we could dedicate a topic to this.
I'm certainly no expert on this subject, but there's plenty of other experienced producers here that I hope can add to this topic.
We can discuss anything you want that helps make a live set run smoother/preventing catastrophes or any other general info/advice you want to share. Share some stories, tips or suggestions for anyone interested in playing a live set.
First tip I'll offer up- if possible, be at the party for sound check so you can check that your set works and sounds the way you want it to before you start playing. Also, be sure to get setup early enough before you have to play- there's nothing worse than running into issues right before you're on.

My set is beat matched in the Arrangement window in Live, alternating between two tracks. I do all the EQ mixing in real time for the mixes.
I use my NanoKontrol for a lot of effects. I have an instance of Glitch, Fade To Grey and a Auto Filter on each track which I activate and modulate with the NanoKontrol.
I have an instance of Predator open for leads and synth effects as well as an instance of the Live drum machine for triggering one shots.
I have some percussive loops and vocal samples in the Session view that I trigger periodically. |

i do warp the tracks on session view, put the eq3 and auto filter on each channel.
for me there's nothing more boring than beatmatched tracks at the arrangement view..
on the other channels of session view, put voice samples, atmospheres and drum/perc loops
when i warp the tracks i think of possible sequence of tracks and mark the point the next track enters too, mixing perfectly
also i have 2 cds with the tracks .. so if anything happens with the laptop you can put the tracks on cdj and mix in a dj set... without taking much time on silence |

simple stuff...
practice your liveset at home so every thing runs perfectly and always run a checklist of your gear before leaving the house/studio to make sure youre not forgetting anything.

Hey anyone got some experience on using Condenser Microphones for your live set, Im planning on doing some live instruments, But acoustic feedback is quite worrying.
Any ideas would be nice...

hmmm on what instruments are we talking about?
I tried using condenser with the line 6 ux2, but they are whey to sensitive, so i switched to dynamic mics... |

I would say that the best way to amplify acoustic instruments in noisy live setups is to use a pickup or equivalent. They can be made manually with some little knowledge and allow you to directly connect the instrument to a mixer. I do it with my balalaika

I put in empty versions of tracks. Improvise with drum loops, leads atmos, fx on the other channels .... mix it all up with different tracks with different arrangements.
Put some interesting fx on the master channel as well as other channels. try to make it as interactive as possible.
And yes, always carry Cd's or others as backup...

i also would go for dynamic mics if you want to use them for a liveact.
for s(h)ure the sm57/58 is a classic, but the newer version (beta 57/58) is sounding better imo, just doesn't fit for every voice, but for percussions it's great.
if you want to spend a bit more money, go for the shure sm7, great dynamic mic.
i also like the sennheiser md421, especially for amps, but also for percussion. just a bit expensive...
