Thanx a bunch man....Mecha is pretty old so I can't say for 100% certain..but i think it's VB1 with ofcourse plenty of eq, compression/distrotion treatment (mostly quadrafuzz). Industry of love has Trilogy, which is usually my weapon of choice for bass. And let's not forget the amazing mastering job by wiredmasters who added some extra pixiedust and oompf.

Hi everyone, this is my first post on isratrance! I was wondering if anyone here could help me.
I'm incredibly fascinated by this lead sound that lots of psytrance artists use. You can hear it in 'Astrix' - 'Tweaky'. The sound fades in at around 3:06 and is most prominent from 3:15 onwards.
I've been trying to figure out what the sound is and how to make it using 'vanguard' for ages, but I just can't seem to do it.

I'd be very grateful for some advice on how to create that kind of sound, especially if it can be done in vanguard.

Thanks!

hey dave welcome on board
i like vanguard, i think you could make these noises there..
i come close with ajx saw and a white noise or hi-pass noise.. then band+shp2 filter with ~2/3 reso and full of drive (maybe not all).. then make 1/32 gate with pulsing gate.. tweak the cutoff

what do you think?

Lead instrument
From Wikipedia

Someone who plays lead instrument is the most advanced player of their instrument in their ensemble. This is also referred to as the first chair, principal, first position, or first (name of instrument).

In addition, monosynth synthesizer patches are often called "leads", for their frequent use on melody parts in dance and electronic music. These patches are often legato, meaning filters and modulation is continued across a series of held notes, and portamento can be used to create a pitch bend transition up or down to other notes.

I got some good sounds out of it man! maybe not the exact same sound from tweaky, but it has made me understand psytrance sounds and how they are made a bit better.
You see, before I used to write everything in MIDI using vanguard presets, maybe tweaking them a little bit with some automation. Now I know that you can make your own sounds by starting at basic oscillators and adding various filters and delays delays delays to it.
I now think that Astrix may have made his lead sound first, then sampled the best sounds from that lead and arranged them really well. Which I think could be a good workflow technique eg: making the sounds first, sample by sample and building up your own sample library.
