Rosengren, check this out for a basic explanation:
http://www.tweakheadz.com/digital_audio_converters.htm
Some of it is a little irrelevant when it comes to electronic music, but it should be helpful.

My old Delta 1010 worked fine (always stuck Win98SE), no functionality problems, just not the best sounding thing around, but it was good value for money in 2002.

I had a 10/10 that didn't fail but like you say the sound was poor. I got Digi 002r before I got rid of it. Huge difference in sound.
I got an old Quattro for my office computer. I have to bash it sometimes to get rid of crackle sound. My mates one went the same way. Also had a MIDI sport 8x8. That got replaced quickly due to some problem. I can't remember what is was now. I must be getting old. |

yeah but I wouldn't want to clock it off an m-audio product. I 'm not a big fan of jitter.

The card is optional..you can use it as a standalone.

Just checked it out their site....their own card is quite expensive and you won't get no monitoring option.
Though I would be apprehensive about using the M-audio DAC for monitoring. Especially if with decent monitors.
But the Alpha link does look like a lot of bang for your money. |
