I know, but it always seems like the choices in monitoring D/A and routing in one unit go from the Central Station to the Cranesong Avocet pretty fast. I don't really like the D-box..           You believe in the users?

I know what you mean. I would love the Avocet....but its out of my price range

How did you get on with the volume control on the Lavry?

I wish it had a second output which wasn't effected by the volume controller.

Have you tried the D-box?

I've never actually used the DA10, I just heard it in a blind comparison with the DAC1 and a few others in a local hifi shop, so I don't know about the volume control. The design could be much better, and it's terrible ergonomically and cosmetically, but it's great that it doesn't sacrifice sound quality to bring the price down.

My friend has a D-box, and I've used it in his studio a couple of times. There isn't a specific problem I have with it, it just doesn't feel like it's worth the price. I definitely prefer the DA10 over the D-box's d/a, and I don't really need any monitor routing gear at this point.

I like the volume control... it's simple and I don't touch it that much anyway.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

I was particularly interested in the Lavry's volume control as it is calibrated in 1dB steps and i wanted to use it to switch between K-System levels easily and accurately. It would be cool if you could re calibrate the display to 0dB at given spl. Beggars can't be choosers.

Also I was thinking of running the output to my patchbay and normalizing it to my monitors inputs. That was I could tap of to any out board for recording.

I'm not sure it's exactly 1dB steps. Haven't read the manual Doesn't matter to me much anyway.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

The manual isn't very clear but their website states its 1dB steps.

I went over from using the Delta 1010 to the Focusrite Saffire. Much better DACs on that one and I am not talking simply about the higher conversion rates.

Otherwise all you would hear would be extremely fast on-off bleeps?

Something has to convert the data to voltage.

If you're asking why you would need a dedicated DAC as opposed to the integrated D/A in an interface or sound card, then because integrated D/A generally just isn't that good (with the exception of some very expensive units). If you pay $300 for an interface that costs $100 to design and build, probably less than $10 of that goes into the DAC design and components.           You believe in the users?

All sound cards have them built in. But you can buy dedicated units.....that's what this thread was intended for.

But You can talk about the weather if you want.
