Here comes a question!
One thing im keen on doing is connect my digital porta, yamaha aw1600 to my audiophile 24/96, and utilize the 8 combo inputs and record to cubase from the "recording device" in this case the digital porta...
Once i tried to record through the digital porta with a AKG perception-100 condenser mic and it sounded distorted, though i run the signal from "monitor out" on the digital porta to analog in on the audiophile and recorded to adobe audition, it worked fine with a dynamic mic, Shure sm57, no distortion.
could phantompower been a issue when carrying the signal straight to the soudcards analog inputs?
would it be best to carry the signal digital if possible? would that rule out any digital to analog converting?
i know that biterate and samplerate must be synced between two devices, is there anything else i should/could think about, in terms of digital and analog connections that can degrade the sound or that cant handle a specific signal, i heard of running Direct In boxes through certain things, anyone care to explain some more in that..
i think this is enough for now
Cheers!

sy000321 -
im recording guitars, piano, percussion of all kinds, handdrums, vocals.. ect ect..
i got two AKG perception-100
one ADK A51e
and one shure sm57
and a cheap vocal mic which actually sounds kind of nice
as i only have a little behringer ub 802 mixer and no fancy outboard FX i thought i could utilize the digital porta as a mixer and use its internal FX and get cleaner recordings straight into cubase... instead of recording into the porta and have to transfere the wavs with usb to the computer..
i dont only do psytrance(latley its been no psy at all) im getting more and more into acoustic stuff and chilly jazzy stuff.. or whatever crosses my mind...
when i got my gear setup(i recently moved) i will do some tests...

I connected all outs of my hardware (Yamaha A-5000, Access Indigo 2 and a Waldorf Pulse) to a Yamaha 01v and I mix it from here (obvious . Softsynths and some fx-tracks are mixed all inside the cubase mixer and its master out is set to my EWS-88 MT digital out, which goes straight into the 01v digital in.
When I need to process the hardware with software fxs, I can always route its signal from the 4 01v's outs on the back to the ews 88mt ins on the external box.
