My computer is a Pentium 4 3.0GHz, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD.

It's not good for me, everytime I make a good track in Cubase the computer doesn't hang on and begin to halt everytime...

I'm looking for a MAC PRO:

* Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core)
* 4GB RAM (4 x 1GB)
* HD 500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
* HD 500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
* ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB (Two dual-link DVI)
* Apple Cinema Display (20" flat panel)
* Two 16x SuperDrives
* Apple wireless Mighty Mouse
* Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) + Mac OS X

I don't know if i'm going to buy the MAC PRO or a PC with a similar setup.
What do you use? What is the best to produce electronic music?

I use FL Studio 7 (Yes still)
IMO it's the processor that determines how many VST's your sequenser can handle.
At the moment I am stuck at 10 VST's and 6-7 VSTi's... That's why I am upgrading...           www.xun.dk / myspace.com/xundk

What are the best processors to a Studio Desktop nowadays?

Since I had some problems regarding the "Dual Core/Dual Channel" technology, I would like to ask some questions about new computers:

1) How´s going compatibility/stability about Vista vs Audio Programs??? I guess that with a QuadCore with 4 Gb ram is supposed to run ok only with Vista(I read XP can handle maximum of 3.5 Gb).

2) As I use Cubase Sx 3, I would like to know if the Multi Processor suport is designed also for Quad/OctaCores. Maybe for this computer upgrade I will really need Cubase 4. I read that maybe these "old multi processor suport" will not use full capacity from a 4/8Cores...

And my experience with computers: the more u try to learn about, the more u find new issues... lol

For example: everybody said to me that for "Dual Channel" use, u NEED to have your ram as "doubles"(2,4,8), and it needs to be the same(Mb,clock,latency,...). BUT my computer runs with Dual Channel "on", even with 1.5 Gb ram(512+1024).

And just a little opinion: I have a felling that computer is like cars. My Ferrari Maranello will not have the same behavior as yours(even being the same)... I mostly work with audio. I like audio, but I guess I can´t handle midi very well. Cause I´ve already saw some honest specs running much more midi tracks that I thought my better computer could handle.... Strange...

Well I don't have it just yet.
My old overclocked (2@2.4) AMD X2 3800+ maxed out at 95% on most of my projects, limiting me.

So I'm getting the Q9450, once they have it in stock. Adding a abit IP35 Pro to it, and Corsair DHX ram sticks to it. Should overclock like a beast

I actually have Toshiba Satellite A100 laptop with 1.73 mhz intel proc, 2 gb RAM, m-audio firewire audiophile, and it's more than enough to make a decent track if you bounce audio chop it up etc, win xp is tuned to give more power + cubase sx has a realtime priority in processes.           Monitoring devices, know where you go
Mass media, total control

Data overflow, virtual suicide
This information, is disinformation

32bit OS can only handle 3 to 3.5 GB of ram, depends on your setup. This includes also the 32bit version of Vista.
64bit OS can handle more, including 64bit version of Windows XP.
Yes, a Quad with 4GB of ram will make Vista perform well. But it will make XP perform even better.

I believe it will support more than 2 cores. But I have no idea to be honest.

DDR doesn't mean you get a double performance. You get some, but it's not THAT significant.

It's not only about CPU. It's also about the type of motherboard, memory, how was your system optimized for audio work, the audio interface you use, the latency set for that audio interface, etc.

Does anyone knows if Windows XP supports the Quad 2 Core as it is?
Cubase SX support too?
