I d like to know the most used and respected books and writer s names for the following subjects.
People who read them while in audio college or schools, who have heard about them, who have used them to develop theorical knowledge in all aspects regarding music production please share it here. This would be the main book topics that come to my mind right now:
- computer music
- sound synthesis/design
- (virtual)synths programming
- acoustics
- mixing
- mastering
- musical theory
- eletronic music prodution
- production tips
- vst(i)s
- sequencers
I believe that books that have an easy and intelligent way of explanning the theory are always prefered. Some writers can explain complex things through simple comparison and examples that make us visualize things in a more clear way.
I ve checked amazon.com and found some nice books which I m thinking about buying. You can even read some pages and take a look inside the books main menu to see if the topics are the one you re looking for.
I think this one seems nice and complete:

I have a copy of the Rick Snoman - 'Dance Music Manual', and I can say that it's pretty good. It does give very specific advice to just about all genres of electronic music. I find specific advice so lacking in most books, espceially when everyone is heralding 'Just Use Your Ears'. It's not going to have all your answers, but I think it is a very good for beginner & intermediate users.

I had to print my manual for my registered copy of the Impulse Tracker. They only provided me with a .txt file for help. same for FT2 too.

Rick Snomans "dance music manual" book sucks.
Its not very indepth at all. its an introduction in2 most of the production process, no music theory, no synth theory, just some mixing.
Ur much better of with david gibsons visual guide to mixing.
Im also very impressed with a music theory book I bought called
Melody in Songwriting: Tools and Techniques for Writing Hit Songs (Berklee Guide)
Its really outstanding |
