Haha, the moment I saw the thread title I knew exactly what sound you were talking about. It's -everywhere-. Phanatic, Vibe Tribe, Artsense, DNA, Ephedrix... I think pretty much 90% of the artists used it at some point. I've recreated something very similar with VAZ modular - it was a simple saw wave running through a low-pass filter (high resonance) modulated by decay envelope set to about mid, with a distortion module added to the end, for a bit better sound you can modulate the distortion amount as well.

yeah redo a 303 setup in any synth that allow it then the caractere depends mostly of the filter and overdrive/distortion.
velocity on filter resonance and cutoff can be fun to emulate accent work good for these sound

i have gotten similar results with a 303 clone and distortion + bandpass eq
but i cant get it as sharp, the sample posted has alot more 'whack'
the higher octave one at 3.10 really shows this.HeLP!
and what is a nice disto for this?
thanks:)

The best 303 sounds I have gotten in my studio, came from putting the x0xb0x in the Moog Slim Phatty, and overdriving the VCF.
As you can hear at 2:40 mark on the sample of the track below.
Have ordered a ProCo Rat 2 pedal for that Hardfloor-like (apparently they use it) distortion.

to original post:
the sound you are referring to is not a full on sound but infact a old house sound that is basis for modern dance music itself.
this track was made 20 years ago and is still better than most produced today:

Peace out.
sound good mate, a bit more dirty /growling could be nice too.
what you used for the bassline ? the 303 sound more pure in contrast

Yup, I got that old (dull) school (goa) kick, which gets lost in my mixes with the way I mix and program arrangements and synth sounds. With the resonance high the filter closed, the bass is absolutely massive, which provides very big synth drum sounds, with the LFOs being MIDI syncable and the envelope also controlling the filter. Get a nice pattern on the sequencer set the LFO at 16ths and the S&H waveform, the in real time tweak modulation indexes of LFO and ADSR and the VCF cut off.
The Moog sounds less pure in that clip cause I boucned the bassline (which varies wildly in real time, not being able to phase sync the VCO), and then took the 3 best sounding notes to build it. It sounds very static, but I wanted that to get a consistent tone and bottom end.
The 303 (well the x0xb0x) fluctuates nicely as it was just a case of hitting record and letting the free running VCO shine through.
The x0xb0x sounds absolutely brilliant, jumps out the speakers, I love it.
