Hey there,

Probably a lot of you know how to make it, I tried and never managed to do a decent one.

Here:

It's the sound that starts at 1:20 and repeats for a long time. Can anyone give me some pointers ? :S

Thanks in advance           Pyrex :: Traveling without moving

man, i am not sure how to make it, and i hate to be a hater, but to be honest with you... EVERY time i hear this sound in a track (and it sounds the same in every track) I delete that track from my library and I usually disregard that artist in the future.

that being said... you could probably make a sound that would fulfill the same role in a much more interesting way by just rigging up an audio track to record a synth, then, while recording, tweak the synth in all types of crazy ways. Now chop that audio into bits and you will have like 30 sounds that are better than this one...

maybe u are not using this sound in a track but are just curious or w/e in that case nvm but anyway, had to be honest...           --

Hello, this is the 303 once again, do your homework and research on the Roland TB303.

When the decay is properly set it can do this particular timbre I call the 303 dog. woof woof.

There are Vengeance premade sound samples that feature this particular synth shot, you can find it in the Essential Club Sound vol 1 or 2 can't remember.

Or again, you can synthetic your own variation using a 303 clone like the ABL, d16phoscyon or even any other synth with a sawtooth wave and a filter envelope.

The particular sound comes from modulating the filter's cutoff at a particular speed, when I've recreated this sound I've found that the filter's sweet spot is a combination of filter, resonance, env depth and decay speed. Very careful knob tweaking should be made to obtain the right filter sweep to get it barking.

So I hope it helps. Yeah it has been used a lot, if you ask me I think that has to do with the Vengeance packs becoming too popular... as you can listen many other of the vengeance sounds all over popular fullon acts (and some more underground guys too).

Some tracks from guys like Neelix or DayDin are like a demo of the Vengeance sample universe... this samples sound incredible well (i use the percussion ones) but yeah, they are very recognizable and have contributed a lot to make electronic (not only psytrance) music what it is today with all the positive and / or negative you could think about it.

use a 303 clone or saw wave with a low pass and lots of resonace some synths sound better than others... so your best bet is to use a 303/emulator           http://soundcloud.com/brentmalik

not necessary a 303 clone , i remember the virus have presets like this but it could come out of many synths..choose well the distortion /overdrive

to get identical sound maybe not but you will get just as good with massive

Hehe, just got it. I already tried it with Phoscyon but I wasn't managing to do it. Guess I wasn't tweaking enough :S you basically have to tweak this sound almost as much as you tweak it a bass patch.

Did it with Phoscyon but will try it in other synths.

If anyone wants to try it, I do recommend adding a transient shaper or a compressor with some attack (arround 30-50ms) to make it punchy, it will sound much better.

Thanks all

The 303 is a simple single saw/square VCO with a resonant LPF filter and a sequencer to program sequences.
Whilst I love a good acid line, the 303 (and especially its clones) has been abused and misused to no end, especially in the full-on side of the woods.

There have been many amazing techno and goa trance classics which are full of 303 sounds, you should check out them examples.
Its a classic synth that inspired millions of artists and listeners alike.

Peace out.

You hate this sound and disregard the artist when you hear it?
Is there much Psytrance left for you to like?

haha, yeah man, there is tons

@nectarios: I don't doubt 303's influential history, nor am i talking about the 303 in general, and you are right I should consider how it has inspired many, and I am grateful.

But to hear this specific sound the "woof" so many times in many full on tracks over the years... its magic has been used up. psytrance is supposed to be magical.

Bit like the "Amen" break in DnB/Jungle or the "chug" in Metal -although I still can't get enough of that clanging, skittery goodness in Jungle and I can still pull a good Metal face with the best of them when I hear it!           https://soundcloud.com/craic-addict

Its all relative. Listening to doofs double dragon track is still more magical to me than, say, any psykovsky or kindzadza track.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

I guess this sums it up, and The Bap has a point about the chug and amen. I'm still sick of the woof tho

maybe at some party in some epic mountains after a night of craziness the sun hits the dancefloor and we all lose it to the trance and the woof vibrates our ears and we all love it...

but I still vote for producers to forage into new sonic realms

search for the discovery pro presets someone uploaded here. It's got a few 303's that sound cool.
