Some people here are scared of melodies.
"The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."
True, some are apprehensive towards melodies, many kiddz on the bus i drive, say "they don't necessarily need melodies to fly/journey all the time but they respect dat logic"
For me, i enjoy the idea of cheese, it puts balance into things... I put curds in my music..

People here have a weird definition of cheesy
It seems like most people here define cheesy = uplifting.
I think a better definition for cheesy is... fake-sounding, over the top... forced emotion... flat, plastic...

I like dat definition... Forced emotion per the social norm... Good hit Shiranui

For some people in this topic, mozart or beethoven are cheesy xD

I like this a lot, and when my missus is listening to commercial radio I often say to her I don't mind a pop/rock song that makes you FEEL something, but so much in brainless trash in terms of lyrics it makes me just feel like hitting the "OFF" button and arguing with her.
I got told during a recent drum n bass set I played that my intro track:
was cheesey... and I was like WTF? It was at wine bar at 2:00pm on a sunday!?
I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

I dunno, when I see a DJ that doesn't dance, I become suspicious...

On another note (and no, not a cheesy one), melody does not always == cheese.
You can hear melody in two or three notes in the most minimal of psy music and it certainly may not be cheesy at all, but be just enough to put a wicked, knowing grin on your face to go along with your head nodding. So be careful in writing off all music with melody. Be specific.

Well, over-the-top “fireworks” of a melody with heavy (ab)use of arpeggios – that’s cheese in my book. And yes, half of Mozart’s works fall under this definition. There are no sacred cows.
