You just aged yourself.
This song was a huge hit around 1988 (+/- a year).
Unless you are American, you could not have missed it.

I think some examples are a bit unfair. I don’t see how Miles’ track made it into the psy trance category. The same goes for Astral Projection’s track too (yes, I know, the famous psy name and everything – the track is still “regular” European trance).

Mubali, that 1200 mcg track was so awful I could not get past first 2 minutes. You must be a true man of peace running from the dance floor every time. Somebody less enlightened would have probably strangled a DJ by now.

Just because it use a piano and it's melodic this doesn't mean it's cheesy.

This track is genial, and probably one of the best tracks ever made in electronic music. It has such complexity in just a simple melodic line with few notes. This is what real music is about. It's easy to create a complex tracks when you use a full orchestra but it's more hard to make a same complex tracks with just a piano and few notes played.
So guys, you better learn some music before calling a track cheesy or not !

Yes, absolutely right! I remember having my first musrooms on this track. Fantastic bright colours, drivin through the city, pure beauty sunny day, bright colours... it`s a genious track, probably really one of the most important in electronic dance music...

But that's exactly what it is!
How did it even make into this discussion?
Can anybody point out anything "psy" about this track at all? Forget about bright colors - I am talking about the format. It's European club tune all the way. If you use this as an example, why not start posting all the hands-in-the-air Dutch goodness too?

I danced to Children in underground parties in Israel and in full moon parties in Ko Phangan in 94 - people were laughing, crying and screaming at the same time. In almost every party. Nobody was talking about psytrance then, nobody was talking about Goatrance- it was just full moon parties, acid parties or just parties. In many ways it was the first of its kind, and also the best. Cheesy? Maybe. But the best.

(in parallel, same can be said for Toxic.)

It was like a fresh breeze at the time it came out. To me, it still is. And it is not really that cheesy. It’s quite tasteful compared to Dutch super-hits of today, although it is in a similar style overall. At least it does not have a 2-minute-long breakdown for a DJ’s arms stretching routine (which was invented a bit later by Tiesto and copied by Van Buuren – they are still in a sort of a copyright dispute over it ).

I think “cheesy” is more like “over the top”, kitsch, fake drama-like. Just because something is sweet and has a mainstream appeal it does not necessarily mean it’s cheesy. “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is cheesier than “Legally Blond”, although it’s (supposedly) a horror movie. Likewise, some machine-gun darkpsy is cheesier than “Children”.
