Don't really know what I expected when I checked this one out. I see all these reviews how great the album is, so I check the cover. I know covers doesn't really say anything about the music, but I like art so I like to look at them, as to judge the music from different aspects. And this cover, yeah I really liked this.

Then I listen to first track. And... It begins cool as HELL, and I think wow, finally some original, beautiful music, A beutiful melody, not just standard sounds and weird noises. And then, after 40 seconds all of this fades away and what I hear... just fucking weird noisy psytrance, heard 351 times before. Maybe not as bad as the 'standard' psytrance nowadays (which I don't even listen to), maybe actually some good 'almost' old goa style... but still... well-- no. Then there's a break, and that cool melody returns, and then it fades away again when the beats return. So what's the fucking point of having it there at all? Did they even made that part of the track themselves? Or just stole it from some movie?! Maybe it's just me, but I just can't take this noise music, it's not melodic, it's not psychedelic, it's not cool, for me... it's just nothing.

The other tracks seems to be all the same so I guess there's nothing to say about them. Except the last track, which is downtempo, but way to short to get anything started.

Now, I'm not saying this album is bad (although I don't like it), this is not a review of the album. This is just my disappointed thoughts written down, weakly hoping for something else. But let's face it, this is 'psytrance' today, maybe even the 'best' psytrance there is today. And let's face it furthermore, I don't listen to psytrance anymore. I don't like it. It just doesn't make me mentally 'come' as it used to.
... and I'm off, off far away to other lands.

The Misted Muppet - From The Legend

It's no secret now that The Misted Puppet's "From The Legend" album has been very well received by the psy-community. Amidst all the discussion of the albums strong points, some of the more commonly tossed about words used when describing this album include "innovative", "groundbreaking", "cutting edge", etc. Given the overwhelming praise of this album, it might surprise some people that I find this album to be none of these. Regardless, I absolutely love this album.

"From the Legend" proves a point I have been thinking about a lot lately in regards to this wonderful genre of music we know and love. As of late many people have been complaining about the lack of originality in psy-trance these days. In spirit I agree with a lot of the arguments put forward on this topic. However I personally feel the problem isn't so much to do with originality as it has to do with simply a lack of truly quality releases these days. Not every album can be a Hallinogen - Twisted, an X-Dream - Radio, a Shpongle - Are You Shpongled, an Infected Mushroom - Classical Mushroom and so on. Nor should every album need to be. Groundbreaking albums are, and should be, few and far between. That is, after all, what makes them great. However genres of music evolve due to the music in that said genre sharing, reworking and expanding upon that genre's proven formulas in interesting new ways. It is entirely possible to make an excellent album using and expanding upon previously established work, This is exactly what The Misted Muppet have done.

Upon closer inspection, there is basically nothing really new about anything musically in From The Legend. One could even say that a large chunk of it is straight out of the "Classical Mushroom" mold. That said, there are albums simply that copy a winning formula and others that take that formula and make it their own, transcending mere "copying" and becoming something new and excellent in and of itself. The Misted Muppet have done the later with this excellent album. Other reviewers have already given great descriptions of tracks on this album, so there is no need to say more of the same here, but I just wanted to point out that some of the hype of this being something totally new is unjustified. If you listen expecting an earth shattering new album, you probably will be disappointed. However if you come in just wanting to hear some damn good music, than this is definitely an album you should check out.

The only thing you said that was true is that you dont like Psy-Trance anymore. Cause if you did you would love this album for sure. In my opinion its hard to do something better than this.

Bullshit. I love psytrance, and I didn’t like this album.

But I guess I just don’t like REAL psytrance... pffft.           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

This is about taste and even beyond taste!

DAGAN and TAL know how to make music!!!
They are full surprises unlike most of the artists these days...

Every track is a different story with an amazing story in it!

There are very few artists in the psytrance scene that can make this scene so interesting!

Every artists like Infected Mushroom, Simon Posford, The Misted Muppet, Violet Vision, Dark Soho Astrix Space Cat Etc. (U know) those are the artists that make this scene a live and interesting every time they have another release out there, because u know every track by them was made to be much more than just another release, every track has the special touch that u just can't miss it!

Those I called the Elite!

Be positive, we don’t have much artists like these, and these we have are already want to move on from psytrance.

the album present substance for 6 albums of the usual psytrance artist.

Misted, for me you are the best of the best!

RESPECT

not that it needs to be mention but man, I also had to post my review for this album. I got it about 3 weeks ago and it blows my mind! 9.8/10 only cause theres a couple of songs that are only OK. The rest of the songs are beyond amazing. My favs are Mist and Machine Forest. Not only is it written geniously, its prob the clearest, best produced album I've ever heard. I turn my bass all the way up and somehow its still not distorted in my car. For those of you who don't like it, Im really sorry for you. You must be really jaded! Take a break from music and come back. This is a classic album we will remember for a long time!
