Right then, the last Cubase VS Ableton thread made me think about making a tune using nothing but the native plug ins of your sequencer.
Obviously we can use samples from our sampler libraries, yet use your sequencer's native sampler, if you are not simply dropping the audio in teh arrangement.
Use the native soft synths, reverbs, EQs, compressors, delay, modulation FX...whatever of your DAW and mix and master the tune in there, again using only native plug ins in the mastering chain.
Would you say a -10RMS is good as a level for the mastering? Obviously not as close as commercial releases but something to make things a bit loud, yet not overcompress things and keep a "natural" sound to get an idea of things without them being heavily processed. Keeping an even level, would be better for comparing clips, besides the fact that I can't get much louder than -10RMS without making my mixes sound like shite

I'll go first using Logic 8.

Made the kick from scratch using Ultrabeat, ES1 for the bassline.
All leads were made using the ES2.
Percussion sounds are entirely from the Apple Loops library that comes with Logic 8.

Don't look at this as a competition of which sounds best, as for example I am sure one can get better results than me, making a tune in Fruity Loops if they know their stuff, but I thought it would be an informative thread of each DAW's sound quality, as I am positive they are all equally great, the "big" ones anyway.

Peace out.

pretty cool song, like the sex in it but was kinda expected after enjoying your album for months in the car with lots of pleasure

to me the kickdrum could have some more click in the hi, but thats just my taste. the rest is good imo for native plugins.

nice idea, will give it a try, im on ableton....

cheers

pro logic is the preferred choice for many of the south african psy-artists.
I reckon it took me such too long time to learn all the neat tricks in FL that i can not afford to change DAWs now.

I don't even like any of the inherited FL synths.. The fx plugs is allright. wish there was something like qaudra fuzz in fl. wish there was a 3rd party plug like it. (know any?).
I'm not gonna even try to make a song with FL alone.

i've started to learn ableton, we'll see how it goes.

anyways,, cool thread, i'll keep an eye on this one

logic ftw

seriously though vb-1, quadrafuzz and some other cubase gems could give a good run at it... and of course i've heard excellent stuff with fruity.

but ES-1 is just so sweet sounding on bass, and some of logic's plugins are just astonishing. i "discovered" sculpture a week ago and am still so in love with some presets alone it's hard to motivate myself to actually learn it.

This track was made through Fl studio and various drum samples, synths are all totaly FL! It's not psy but it is still a decent tune & quite loud. Prob my fav track I have done. But now I use logic, they're synths that standout like anything. Generally rule of thumb is to use only native plugs, best way to save dsp power. Untill I get a dsp card! Dreams of a UAD!

Its the ES2 hehe kidding, they are off some sample CD, Distorted Realities 2 I think, chose some sections and blended some reversed ones with some straight ones to make them a bit more interesting.
I am currently making the music for a play. Its a modern greek tragedy and I just used them vocals the intro sitar bit and that flute for one of the pieces. Then I thought about making a psy-trance remix out of it

Nice idea, but Cubase doesn't even have 1 decent synth to make noises with.
