Hi freaks

I haven't found a thread treating this problem, so I open a new one. If I'm wrong... delete it...

I think you certainly all know this problem. The tracks are made completly with computer, and you need a Live-Act. How can you make something interesting, and not just mix your own songs (what some "Live"-Acts do). I think very few are able to play a keyboard on stage... How do you guys make your act?

interested in your answers!

stay high!

you could open your finished tracks, export regions of it into logical parts

for example bounce
-kick/bass combo
-leads
-atmospheres
-fx & rubber stuff

now split those regions into parts that make sense

intro, outro, climax 1, climax 2, atmospheric etc

load up those things into a sampler, I like fxpansion guru for such things, as it allows to build scenes out of pattern combinations. It resembles ableton live's clip function in a way

while playing the liveact, load up 1 or 2 vst's for realtime leads or strings, prepare a patch bank for the synths you use...

prepare some fx channels you can wire to all your audio tracks and vst's, for example the fx plug buffer override, camelspace and ohmboyz delay are perfect for such purposes

on your output bus you can insert a mastering limiter so that you don't overload the pa. this is very important imo. all together shouldn't use too much cpu, so you can play your realtime stuff with low latency.

test, practice and be creative...           soundcloud.com/epsylohm

To cut a long story short: Stereo mixes with improvised performance on top.

but not every artist is composed by 4members...

If you are alone you have to prepare your tracks before you play.. try erasing the silents, some leads or effects or tension creatins/releases.. and then do them Live!! Try to remix your tracks, add new sounds or delete old ones. This isnt easy but just use you imagination. You can do tons of things with the eq, cue/loop,samplers, pitch, etc. live.

If you only have the mixtable and your laptop you dont have much to play with, or you are limited to your 2d monitor. so use as much hardware as you can in any way you can find.

There is so much you can do live, JUST USE YOUR IMAGINATION

astrognome you are right, nowadays people dont even try to do lives. Some artists ive played at a party with dont even mix there song, they just put their cd playing (thats hapening usualy when someone plays a 1h live). Trance is becoming very commercial, and thers alot of artists out there with no talent. And the talented ones out the, the ones with all the ideas and inovations get punished by that.
