Hey,
recently I have been to a party, where I got addicted to The Grateful Dead. They released a vast amount of albums.
I am sure, that there are some freaks here, wiling to give hints, which one is good for the beginning. I have no clue.
Cheers
PS: Yes, this is no Chill out, but I think, that Chill Out listeners could know this, somehow. |

well, "american beauty" i believe is considered THE classic grateful dead studio album.
but you'll probably just want to go "find" a large collection of live recordings and go through them. there's an entire station on sirius/xm satellite radio (in usa) that is all grateful dead, all the time, and its almost always a live set playing.
they seem pretty consistent in quality through the years, so if you're a fan there is a TON of material for you to start checking out.
sorry i'm no expert and can't give more specific recommendations.

The first Grateful Dead album i got was a greatit hits album they realeased called "What A Long Strange Trip Its Been" this sparked my love for the band. If i can give any information on great bands like Grateful Dead it would be to find thier first album and work through the discography. This gives you a different understanding of the band as they got older started exploring different ideas and ideals. |

Aoxomoxoa and Anthem of the Sun are probably the most psychedelic of their albums and reflect the early "acid tests" period of the band.
Europe '72 is in my opinion the best live album the band ever put out. The early 1970's was their prime in my opinion. |
