						| There seems to be an endless barrage of expensive, flashy DJ controllers. People have money to burn I guess? Since I am a poor student I need to content myself with a thrifty choice like the Korg Nanokontrol ($70)... and, you know, I am pretty happy with it, all things considered. My setup is now ultra-compact: a hand-me-down laptop I sunk about $200 into (new RAM and HD) plus an Echo Indigo DJ ($50 on eBay) and the controller. For less than the price of a single low-end CD deck I assembled a powerful creative setup where I can play absolutely any song I might ever want to DJ as long as there is a sound system. I don't even use the mixer; all that stuff is mapped to the controller (along with multiple effects, loops, transport, etc.). It feels like the brain to music connection has never been closer... and I've done it all on a tight budget. Yes, CDs are dead for me... and I do not miss them one bit. |

Bad sound on some models, crappy effects, lack of features , over the top prices.

Its not that Pioneer is bad in my opinion, its just that rane, ecler and A&H offer as much and more quality for less money, and often better features.

As far as 4 channel mixers, Ecler is the only one that makes one any reasonable amount cheaper than a pioneer djm 700. The xone 42 is roughly the same price and rane TTM 56S is a 2 channel which is about the same price as a djm 700... I bought a used djm 600 about 3 years ago, it's been used at parties a lot (inside and outside) and it's still truckin with good sound output.

Effects on the pioneer are good for what most people use in psytrance and the sound quality is good as well. I really fail to see why anyone thinks pioneer isn't a great brand.

						| its a good brand, but not great imho, pioneer is actually better at marketing than building mixers.

I prefer my ecler mixer over my pioneer mixer any day. I love the feeling of the ergonomic knobs and the 100 mm faders.

The knobs for starters. They wear out really fast on Pioneer mixers, dunno how many times I have played on many parties and the ever present pioneer mixer (bloeah)had knobs loose/screwed up/ and so on...fx are crappy (mentioned already) and... and... and...

						| pioneer effects are crappy? I think the roll effect is pretty killer to be honest (it's pretty much the only one I use on the 700, 800, 1000) |

						| lol @ the "real DJ" comment.
Get over yourself. The real DJ is the one who knows his music and his tools and can tell a story.

You can do that with Vinyl, DAT, CDs, Software, etc.

Every single time there has ever been a new way of doing something related to DJing, the ones who use the old method say that the new method is cheating, or 'not real'

It's all arrogant elitist bullshit - one of my pet theories is that people are all up in arms because they spent years learning how to beatmatch manually and are upset that that barrier to entry has been partially removed by software. Feel free to call Basilisk 'not a real dj' because he uses 'cheap controllers' and software. I'll happily laugh myself into a fit.

						| @Psytik, I think you missed the whole point of the new technology. It's not about making it easy for people who cannot beatmatch, the idea is to open new doors to be creative and to focus on other stuff than just the simple beatmatching. |
