This ended up becoming one of my favorite indoor events, reminded me a little of the first time Chromatone came for Evolve, or some of the more rocking Center Space parties.
I thought the deco turned out super nice, with Zach and Broose making one of the better stretch fabric installations we have seen, truly focussed and thoughtful. The moon in the center and the branches adding such a nice element of nature and really did make it feel a little more wintery in there. The space was obviously incredible! Such a wide room to dance your arms around a really good feeling in there.
Naelika played a raging starter set, introducing the first track at over 150 bpm and not letting up til she was done, such a vibrant and booty swinging 2 hours of music! Zorin, who replaced Dragon last minute, was the perfect sound to go next, amplifying the intensity and drive of the night, thanks so much to him for taking over this spot! Malaclypse, man, you freekin rocked the house! I loved the bouncy basslines intermingled with intense as hell stoppy starty grindy whishy madness! Tony had a major issue with his live set, which was a major bummer for all, its not that his music is noisy, adelbert, its that there was an issue that made it sound like that, one that we didn't figure out until we switched jeffry into that spot. I very much look forward to having tony back and making some tunes with him also in the future, he was a great guest and he makes truly unique and deep music. Jeffry played an awesome set of mostly local west coast tunes. What I liked most about it was that I didn't recognize all of it by any means, and as always, it was a great reminder of how kick ass the west coast music is. Jeffry always mixes things together with such a unique style also, its such a pleasure seeing him. I was off in brainy-talky-land with people for most of when Tony got back on and for Herbie's set, but it sounded like a great wind down echoing through the halls of Zoomtopia.
There will certainly be more events like this. I think that the 18+ rule will become more of a staple in these parties, at least if i have it my way. That, and the glowstick rule made for so many funny tales and interesting looks.
The event made its money back and everyone went home happy, deco and dj's paid and on their way back home to their own beds and lives.
Today i am still quite sore, my right shoulder feels like i have a metal post inside of it, and my left calf has been super tight since the party!
Oh ya... the sound... that was really good sound, wasn't it?!!! We paid a very modest price for that system and when i went home after the party, i had not one bit of high frequency ringing in my ears. that made me happy. Maybe we will be seeing this system again very soon in the future!
