Hey guys, anyone heard of this brown note?
theres been a parody of it in south park as far as i know, but yerah, anyone know if theres an actual way to do this?
i'd like to make my class shit their pants, would be wonderful, i know it requires some intense speakers though.. o_o

as i know it is not real.
i have seen an experiment with brown noise, it was made by an audio company.
a guy was sitting in the middle of a room surrounded by huge speakers that played this "brown noise" but nothing dirty happened.

The Studio at which I studied at for two years once did an experiment testing the power of their speakers. They played a sine wave at 18Hz at 145dB I think. There was no noticeable difference being in the studio itslef or being outside with the door closed. The windows vibrated over two inches and a couple of glasses fell to the floor. The pants of the people in the studio flapped from the sound waves.
But no "brown note effects" where noted. I guess it could happen at higher amplitudes. The sound system recently got a boost by 6db, that is twice as loud. I think that isn't enough. I think you will have to approach deadly levels to achieve such a thing and then soiled pants would be the least of your problems. The shockwaves would probably be more problematic.
I doubt there are any research on the matter as such levels of sound are mostly achieved during nuclear explosions or something like that. And once again I think that if you are close enough to a nuke, you will have other things to worry about.

Not really. After long exposure maybe. But hearing damage is not as simple as some claim it is. We don't hear different frequencies at the same level. We hear the best at 3-4kHz and less at the lowest and highest frequencies.
18Hz is in the area where we can't actually clearly hear the sound anymore(our hearing range is from around 16Hz to 12-18kHz depending on age, some may hear as high as 20kHz but most don't. As a general rule we lose around 1-2kHz per decade) and is thus not to be comparable to other sounds at the same level.

Actually the frequency the human ear per se hears the most loudly is 5khz, the cry of a new born baby.
145db is the pain threshold, it is damn loud, and just because we don't perceive bass frequencies that loud doesn't mean that they aren't that loud, or not damaging to our ears...

When I did an access to music tech course we signed a disclaimer at the start of the year saying we would allow the lecturer to play various frequencies to us both with our knowledge and without using standard audio speakers and also using other types of equipment.
The lecturer would ask questions at the end of lectures such as has anybody got a headache or feel anything as I have been playing such and such a frequency to you.
We did one session where we looked at brainwaves and the 4 states (Alpha, Beta, Theta, Delta) we were played (through headphones) the frequency that relates to the sleep brainwave.
It didnt work for everyone but I felt as If I had fallen off the back of the chair unconcious.
Do you ever fall asleep and just at the moment of falling asleep you feel as if you get a shock and have fallen off the back of a chair and wake up with a gasp? If I understood the lecture correctly that is your brainwave changing.
Anyway one day halfway through a lecture a student proceeded to turn a funny greenish colour and lost control of all bodily functions ie vomited, you know what etc etc
It was confirmed that a low frequency had been played to us during the lecture however I am unsure if this was the cause of the students "brown note" symptoms!!
Also it is apparently possible to directly affect mood using waves and make somebody laugh or cry by playing a frequency though I am unsure.
Any elaborations?
