there is no headphone that is good for production.

only ones that is semi-alright

check beyerdynamic DT770 or DT880 DT990
these are in used by our television broadcasting guys.
they are sold as studio monitors headphones

i use sony MDR-7506. its cheap and effective.

there is threads on this forum that covers this topic. im certain.

I definetly would not recommend the bayerdynamics dt770 ..sounds like plastic..
I'll go for some sennheiser soon.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

the best idea is to get top monitor headphones imho (from sennheiser or akg for example, i prefer AKG). The top model usually cost around 300 - 400 $ - it's not very big amount of money, but you get really pro headphones with great crystal clear sound

i have the akg k240 mk2 and i'm satisfied with them.

i would not spend 300-400 for headphones if it was only for a hobby.

Akg k701. They sound absolutely pristine! But break in time is 100+ hours!!! But then they open up nicely

Got the DT990 (not the pro ones) because I bought them in a relatively cheap bundle with other stuff. Im happy with them, but I only use them ocassionally to check the mix ...or when my girlfriend wants to sleep

I did audition the dt770 but they out of my budget range. They sounded alright.

timetraveller say they sound plastic but they are certainly not build that way.
They are very strong and well build. Each single part is replaceable, even the smallest screw. (made in germany). The most comfortable headphones i've tried.
Bad reviews of them are rare..

Hi,I use them now for years.. the dt 770

since I got monitors,I rarely check my sounds in these headdies which is giving me this way of description that they sound to me like plastic.

It's just my analysis.I'm sure I need better ones.
Don't know exactly what Sennheisers, once I've read a very interesting analysis by Aeon about some good ones from Sennheiser, have to find this comment myself - it's somewhere in Isratrance.Maybe HD 650..but not sure.

I think AKG could be an interesting choice too.In the end I gonna make a test.

*eLiSDee* I think my review is honest and not really bad.
