Just get a regular 16-pad drum controller (akai MPD or m-audio trigger finger), and then set the pads like so:
Each side, bind one pair of pads to pitch up, pitch down, one pair of pads to pitch bend up and pitch bend down, a pad to cue and a pad to play (the other two pads you can bind to whatever), so the left side will be for the left deck and the right side for the right deck.
Then with a dual-stereo-out sound card you can run it into a DJ mixer to do the mixing on, or you can bind the sliders and knobs on the midi controller to faders/EQs.
The reason you should use pads for pitch up/pitch down is that a MIDI slider only has 128 possible values which is not precise enough to beatmatch with, the pads will give you greater control.
Using a general-purpose midi controller will save you money since they are also useful for production and have bigger resale value. Any purpose-built DJ midi controller you buy in this price range will be a cheap plastic toy.
You could also use MIDI keys as well, but that will cost you more. |
