Hi,
I am looking for a Audio interface which I can use with Cubase/Logic in the Studio and Ableton Live when playing Live.

It has to be compatible with OSX and Windows7(64/32)

Since My Desktop has a FW400 port and my MacbookPro a FW800 Port it has to be compatible with both ports via Adapter Cable?

I found those interesting :

- MOTU TRAVELER MKIII
- RME Fireface 400
- Steinberg MR816

Anyone got experiences with those interfaces under the above mentioned conditions ?

Firewire is slowly dying, check better for usb nowadays, both RME and Motu are decent for the job you want them

Yes, USB 3 is on the way Firewire is dying and not many products are coming out with firewire anymore, Asus has stopped the TI chipset for their motherboards, even the expensive ones have VIA, i see the new RME is USB since summer i think
there are still firewire interfaces of course

I would be carefull with Hardware from Steinberg, they dropped so many products in the past. Where does for example Houston gone ? or XPhrase ? Hypersonic ? Who ensures us that they support the Interface in future ?           http://facebook.com/ansolas

4.8Gbps !!!

Just think about when they are going to release interfaces with such speeds
or a new Virus TI with usb 3 ...sick speed and stability

What about the MOTU Ultralite ?

The USB hit on the CPU is a joke with any modern CPU/chipset (from past 5 years). That should not be a factor.

MOTU Ultralite offers surprisingly good features and quality for the price, hence it's one of the more popular choices.

Don't trust Steinberg with hardware. RME and MOTU have a history of great products (and you should read some reviews and test for yourself - some really nice stuff for the price range), Steinberg just release mediocre hardware and hopes to use the fact that it's famous due to it's success in software.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

it s true but now it s with yamaha ,but yes maybe suport might be really bad like in the past i dont know... but the mr816 is far to be mediocre for the price ,with a short test i think the pre and converters are better than on fireface 800 and it cost less.
rme have lot of trouble too, every new product they lauch is always bugged and they update the revision, with old product it s ok but never buy a new rme product

i think connections of electronics are evolving very fast those years...and if usb 3.0 sounds fast see intel's light peak...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_Peak

its ready for the market in 2010.sony & apple support it.apple gonna ''kill'' firewire on next models in the next years and maybe usb 3.0 will change direction to go for optical (light) technology.100 gbps in near future!!!

http://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-10362246-264.html

now....waiting for audio interface with 10gbps speed and great stability ...hehehe

everything moves faster.ouuuuuuuuuu

speed has nothing to do with stability...
saying him nowadays to get a usb 1.1 or 2 audio interface cos when usb 3 is out its going to be better is like saying... dont eat now cos in a 2-3 years the food is going to be better or eat this shit cos the other food maybe a delicius burger but this shit will eventually become a tasty burger also!

go for firewire..
and who cares if asus dont use ti chips anymore.. asus mobos was always bad for audio
get your self a gigabyte mobo and you are done with ti chips and all!

if you are a mac dude desktop laptop get a motu if you are pc get a RME.          http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

as far as i know.. rme works great on both where motu has a poor performance on a pc.

converters in this price range ( 500 - 1000e ) are more than ok for any task!

my rme ff400 works great on my pc and laptop and on a friends macbook!           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/
