I literally just listen haha hence all the EQs.. constantly making small changes.. never happy! haha
Not really? Just the right amount of reverb hey..
Roll the tops off as you start going into the higher octaves.. helps maintain body instead of getting too thin and harsh
Melodies.. just me and my MIDI keyboard.. mess around A LOT! Until I come up with something half decent.. then just work all your sounds around that.. inversions, add or subtract some notes, modulate random notes, etc

Yay me neither, always something to change on the bass never the real right sound
Ah, will try that instantly because yeah too thin and harsh sounds not..... mellow enough..dang so simple;)
also if you bass maybe doesnt sound that wide next time:D you could try to add another osc in sylenth which is untriggered layerd over the triggerd osc, lower volume for this osc ofc sounds fine on my monitors right now still there needs to be some widening
how did you widen your bass lately, did you try the imager tools or was your solution something else

No wideners or anything hey.. just different mixing techniques.. so I guess that is the answer haha
However I seem to be going towards too much of a smooth sound for my liking.. want to sound a bit harder if you know what I mean.. going to try a different approach next

Interesting, what technique in particular may I ask?:D also found out by listening that the imaging tools for mono sources aren't really helpful that much
Well, I like trance stuff a lot but also the darker sounds e.g sonic entity...fine acid all over the place ready to enter your mind
Artist who do both are apreciate by me as the are able to vary their sound wether dark or bright both is welcome if done well

To be honest.. Its just EQ and Comp..
1 - Sylenth1 (get it as close as you can on the synth first
2 - EQ
3 - EQ
4 - and more EQ
5 - Multiband to clean it up even more n make it snappy
6 - Singleband comp to glue it together
7 - and depending on how much attack you've managed to achieve with this string of processing and depending what comps you've used etc, do some slight limiting at the end to control the peaks
Filter effects? Not sure exactly what you're referring to but I have not used any external filtering, everything you hear has been done on the synths.. (cronox, sylenth, zebra2, etc)
Thanks for your tips man. I tried using the technique you described and this is a result I have. Ive been tweaking for some time so cant be sure....

One question, as far as eq is concern, do u usually boost some frequencies or just cut???
and how do u cut, seek for the ringing frequencies and cut it or cut the harmonics and leave the fundamental???
Thanks for the help.

Here's my version. I took quite a different road tough. I also used a "not-so-Serbian" kick.

As a rule of thumb you NEVER boost, always cut.. unless you boost very subtle of for a desired effect.. I prefer doing broader EQing, just sounds more natural, unless you really have an issue fitting everything together then you go look for a harmonic. Normally that one around 110, I always find it clashing with my kick, so I just make a little dip
@Sgt-Kabukiman : Well I think your 'not-so-Serbian' kick works quite perfect! haha nice one

Having a go at recreating 'Zyce - Psychedelic Concept' :
Edit: Well, apprently zippyshare doesn't like me anymore after what I've said about it's shitty player. It doesn't show up on my link. But since it's shitty anyway I guess it's no loss.

Agree with the cut "rule", sometimes I boost a harmonic with narrow 1 or 2 db
also I tried broader eq instead of really narrow dips for my bass as you said...hell yeah at a first listen it's sounds really much better...smoother
and would agree that some harmonics can be troubling, I dunno but some of the harmonics arent a double of the root note, that musn't be bad I guess but around 110/120hz it's the case I guess?
http://www32.zippyshare.com/v/48497869/file.html Just the triplet and offbeat part, changed some things like broader eq in this, but yesterday even over headphones it was a quite convincing bass sound, not so serbian over all though I'd say

loudness trick our ears ,louder sound better, thats the reason boosting eq can be tricky and often not recommended, mathcing loudess by ears and a/b can help.
i find eq is very complex with frequency masking, for example if you want to boost a frequency ,insteed try cutting with a narrow Q the frequencies just a bit lower it can work just fine, tricks like this are used in mastering, it can be more transparent.. if you want to give more attack to the kicks stuff like this..
