I've been in that situation several times. Especially when you think "wow my tunes are really good, quality is nice etc" and then you listen to some really great stuff and you start to realize that your's sounds like crap compared to it. But at the end I've never given up, allways missed the pure fun of making music
A good motivational help for me is to compare tracks a made a year ago with my actuall stuff

I have a theory that the main reason so many people "fail" at making music is because they give up.
And the one common thread with all the "successes"? I don't mean commercially - but what's the one common thing that anyone who is happily still making music, playing festivals, DJing gigs, after years and years, will tell you?
They didn't give up.
I'm not convinced it's much more complicated than that - whatever field you're interested in, hard work and perseverance will pay off. Quitting... obviously gets you nowhere.

LoL... not even a year dude?
This is not something you get done over the summer. Commit, work a lot, enjoy the process.
Yes it is hard to make good music, it is hard to make art, it is hard to understand everything involved in psytrance production... but it is still a very nice time for the noobie... the availability for software, hardware and information these days is just something with no precedent.
Maybe this is just not for you, who knows for some is a trend or a stage.
I've been in this for nearly 6 years and i'm just starting to like what i write... i've thought about quiting and i'm very insecure about showing off my work but something inside of me is fed with this trance making thing... one of the few things that still makes me want to be alive hehe so i keep going because i love doing it, and gives me much more fun than videogames (and that is a lot).
Learn to enjoy failing... success comes after a lot of this. |

I'm shy 'cause this scene is pretty much EGO based.
I make music to express my feelings an ideas, provoke dance and aid the psychedelic experience... still I want to suffice the industry standard quality and offer something really valuable not 2be just another one of the bunch.
I'm defining and polishing my style, and approach, also struggling with my day job and other occupations, I do feel much closer now, thank you very much for your comments... I just want it to be worth it.
Think about it bro, try using that courage that frustration causes to get better.

meh...sometimes i find myselft strugling to make nice sounds and the result doesn't match my expections.
aciduss@ Mate don't think like that you have your style, just make music you enjoy listening and don't care what the egocentric artists think and say.

5-6 months?
Be happy that you know anything!
Be OK with the fact that you will not produce anything that you will be happy with...but produce the shit out of it anyways and don't waffle around - finish a track.
Finish the next track.
Keep going.
I started in December of 09, I've made probably 25 full tracks and I only consider 2-3 of them decent enough to play out anywhere, and only in the past couple months.
It's so worth it!

maybe it s not the right time for you, sometimes we need break.. make music when you are in the mood for it and feel the inspiration.
become a geek for few months on the net and in the studio there is lot of information online to get a better level.. |

I think its all well and good for learned and experienced musicians/producers to take breaks to recharge their psymana or whatever, but I'm of the opinion that in the first couple years an hour or two or even just 20 minutes doing something every day is pretty important.
Waffling around during this period of the learning process can IMO lead to a stretching out of that period where you want to produce and stuff but you don't have the knowledge to do so...and the longer that period of time is the more frustrating it will be.
Just my 2 cents!

Then invest time in learning exactly what you need to get where you want. But yeah, make used to the idea it will take time... learning is a lifetime experience.
Overcoming frustration is something good too, sleeping a lot helps me when i feel this way.
I just think about music, production and audio all day long, I analyze daily life and my enviroment, i work ideas in my head so when i'm at the machines i know what to do to make the killarg soundz i so much need :3 |
