I used to be a Tetris addict.
Tetris 2 on the gameboy advanced I used to play every day.
And I believe I must have been one of the best players in the country.
Sure there would be 1000 better players coming from Japan, I truly believe I was very good at it.
Where most people had real difficulties reaching level 9 or 10, I once made it to level 31 or 32 
I'd love to play this game again! |

Tetris was developed by three Russian guys on behalf of the Russian government during the cold war era,it was part of a military brain training program if i remember correctly.
At that time whatever was invented in Russia was registered to the Russian government so this meant that the people who invented Tetris couldnt register the game under the name and make any money out of it.
A copy of the game reached USA and the game became a massive hit,spies and army officers got involved in some secret missions trying to recover the game files back and prevent the game developers to leave Russia and go to the west and stuff like that.
In the end Alexey Pajitnov (the main game developer) went to Usa somehow in order to work for Microsoft,couple people got killed while trying to stop him from working for the Americans and thousands of trial cases with people that used to copy tetris game style begun.
Thats the story in a few lines,i am sure you can find much more info on the net,i wish i could find that great game article i read couple of months ago on a greek games magazine,it had a lot of details which unfortunately i cant recall.
Highly controversial game in any case and in every aspect.
