Is it strange that I could hear all the frequencies (apart from the 30 hz) even though they weren't loud...
is it my ears or my speakers being weird?
Cheers for all the useful posts by the way
Peace |

Everything was ok on my fostex pm-1. Exept two things: I couldn't hear the 30 hz-tone (just a littlebit) but I think that's still ok. And the 50hz-tone came with an audible buzzing :-(
But I'm one of the lucky adults that can hear a 15khz-tone *gg* What a perfect day ;-)

most monitors without a subwoofer wont be able to reproduce a 30Hz tone audible anyway, isnt really a problem
there are some premade sweeps in the FM synthesis in Soundforge for the lazy people who want to test a bit
just dont kill your tweeters... |

folks,
This test is for multimedia speakers, to see if they reproduce a frequency.
most monitors can reproduce low freqs also - they will just be low in volume.
try playing a 120Hz sine wave and a 150hz sinwave together - and try to hear them both separated. A crappy way to test also, but allready pointed to monitors.

martyn, it's normal not to be able to hear 30Hz (without a subwoofer that is), but the buzzing @ 50Hz could be a problem... means that your monitors cannot cleanly reproduce that frequency (and it is an important frequency for us trance-makers).
Trip-, yes it is meant as a multimedia speakers test, but it can reveal 'problems' in all speakers (including monitors). i also like your test (120 and 150Hz test hehe) and i don't think it's crappy!
p.s. i liked the 'pink noise with reversed polarity' test lol. i hope it's not cos of the pink!

Hi XrTC, thanks for your info. I reproduced a 50 Hz tone in cool edit and I can play that with good quality without buzzing. Ok, minimal buzzing ;-) But its much (!) better than the sample I found on the site. Strange, isn`t it? I made also a tone with 35 Hz and my monitors can make them audible. I can post the samples if anybody is interested.

hehe, i have to revise my post a little bit
you can make 30hz audible with most monitors, you just have to turn the volume up a lot
the only problem is you probably kill your tweeters at that volume (if you try a lot higher frequency).
na, it's easy, most monitors go to 45-55 Hz with a reasonable linearity, and then it goes down a lot (-20db and stuff)
damn, am I drunk right now, and it's only thursday |

That reversed polarity thing, sounds interesting for an effect! Does it only sound like this with white noise? Is there a reversed polarity vst plug in? |
