I found that an ergonomic chair with arm rest helps. Your elbows rest on the arms and take much weight off arms and shoulders.

Yeah but than your hurt your elbows if u have plastic elbow rest..
I had pretty big problem with wrist, in fact it was terrible now that I remember.. I still use my 5 year old Sweex mouse for 5 euros, the best..
The only thing that solved the problem was mouse pad, but be sure u buy gel mouse pad, cause sponge ones are bad for maintaining..

orgy, get that squezzing rubber for hand practice, I had similar stuff in carpal tunel.. so practice and rest.. if u dont practice your hand will just get weaker and it can only get worse..          http://www.facebook.com/xrayzproductions

hehe thanks m8! i got this chronical (since 5 years now from guitar)...
only thing what helped me was wing tsun...

i tried sooo much...
-physiotherapie
-acupuncture
-ostheopathie
-nerve sensibility tests...
-electricity care
-horse tendon salves (>**)>
-massages
-a lot more of small things like medicins

but you are right... wing tsun gives me back my muskle power, and that helpes enormous (like your rubberthing helped you)...

i lost more thousands of euros for this issue...

next thing i try is a littlebit esothrical, i really think it have to do with my psyche, because no therapy helped me.

its better over the time, sure... but i still cant play
the guitar, thats why i switched to electronical music xD

anyway, i just can tell you this mouse is a great thing, it relaxes my hand in an awesome way... it really feels like a handshoe^^

cheers

He-he in fact, rubber thing didnt help me so much, but I didnt want to recommend such drastic measures as martial arts.. What actualy did help me is aikido, since theres much wrist bending in it..

So funny bro.. U still practicing wing tsun? I read some books, nice moves in it..

Yeah, I must admit I too dont like their philosophy.. but its not that I dont like philosophy, its just that I share different views..
I wanted to train kalaripayat but theres no such think where I live and aikido was the closest choice.. Cause roots of aikido and budo lie in kalaripayat.. in fact I believe all martial arts have their root in kalaripayat..
I just got bokken, u know, wooden katana, gotta go some day to dojo to check it out :-D
if u know of some good tutorial videos for wing tsun u can contact me through PM           http://www.facebook.com/xrayzproductions

a quitar fits quite good for elbow stand

i am on acoustic right now,and it keeps the hand in good height.i ll try it with a classic also(smaller) to see what fits better.of course there are also ather factors like height of desk and chair, but since you also mentioned you play quitar ,it might help
