wtf, I can't live without filter in the breaks, no way! As a matter of fact I am completely filter dependent, break or no break.
Same goes for gating!

Is it even possible to make tracks without those?           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

I think Psytrance is like Jean Claude Van Damme - Doing the same shit you've seen over, and over, and over again.

Van Damme is teh shit!!! and so is psytrance.

The text is stupid. It is like asking for a rollercoaster without lifts and falls.

recent works of electrypnose don't have gating or even those typical filters. he's doing realy new stuff and it still is a psytrance and very successful project too...           new album out now:

Van Damme is the shit indeed.

Its funny how people get so worked up (unless they are just taking the piss as well), simply because some guy said what not to do when making trance tunes.

Just do what you like and don't give a shite about trends in music.

these rules are not what define a good or bad track to me ,acid drug samples, filters in break ...as long as it blast the dancefloor ,thats the only rule in psytrance , tracks sould make something special on the dancefloor .

I didnt got all worked up... hehe i did laughed but man... at the end every fx or sample etc... those are just tools... some are overused yes but just as salt and pepper is to the kitchen, and hammer and screwdriver to the garage... filters and 4/4 basslines to psytrance are everyday bread.

I do agree we have to aim to new creative horizons but i guess thats a very personal issue of one's music.

IMHO i still like to worship all times psy by using cliché elements and well known techniques, i don't have enough knowledge yet to invent my own or just to say fuck everything that makes psytrance what it is i will make my own style also i love to dead rollingbasslines, lsd samples with crazed delay pingpong fx and breakdowns in the middle of a trak... but hey i also like to be surprised.

BTW disco hooligans i really like ur music and i agree with you when creativity fails and musa wont come just invite her with sweet smell of burning ganja xD

Well considering the amount of animosity that is being shown, guess he was right about the EGO in psytrance scene. When first starting as Goa trance, it was about a hippy making music, now though as searching and asking for help, from what believed to be the same, that post made me realize, why it wasn't.           www.wizanda.com www.soundcloud.com/wizanda

Hey wizanda =)
Of course ego is everywhere...
Even so, handing out project files is not something you just do to help someone! casue it wont help someone who got no clue what to look for... Even so lots of project files become fully audio and then you really get a harder time understanding what has been done.

what is it with a project file that will make you better? just with the snap of the fingers or dl of a project file?

i dont know how long you tweaked sounds in the computer and which programs you tried and what your knowledge is about it all.
To understand how a project is achieved you have to know about certain things. I lack a lot in knowledge, for example replicating a compression setting just by listening to a example would take me a lot of time and i probably wouldnt be on spot even if i took a lot of time.. even so with reverb and even note sequences.. but if i practice more i would have a easier time doing it.

You learn more things by doing than copying, even if you learn somethings by copying or looking at a copy.. its just not as interesting as finding out your self..
And yes learning by doing and learn by copy goes hand in hand, its by doing you learn to understand how the things you copy are made, the thought behind them...

To be on topic, yes i think what he write on that forum has some points, of course i wouldnt agree to all of them and everything has its place... I am also very fond of rolling 16th baselines... and there are a ton of things you can do with them..
Get this dude here!!! hehe
and let us fry him with counter questions!

I think that the "10 rules" is an incorrect description for what the writer intended to say.

I think what he meant to say is that the 10 listed things have been done to death, everyone is bored of them so don't do them. Why is everyone so incredibly commited to doing the same boring stuff over and over again.

The party people don't like it, the people on extacy dont like it. To prove the point, play some decent new music which doesn't use the "10 rules" and see how the audience will react.

Psy trance = 1 trick horse, old dog. Puke on it.

Funny, I consider psy-trance to be the next evolution of music and can't get enough of it...it being the *good* stuff.

You can look at literally ANY genre of music and say that it sucks, is old, etc.

To me and my ears 99% of everything produced in musical history is absolute garbage (well, for most genres its 100% but w/e), including stuff made in the psy-trance scene.

Case in point...I'm going through VA psy-trance albums currently for a go at my first DJ set and I'm lucky if I get one good track out of each because a lot of them are really boring, nothing special.

The "party people" - who are they? to me that means people who just like to get as fucked up as possible and really like alcohol (otherwise known as dumbasses to me)

the people on E? More often than not if you really like E you're pretty fucking stupid and/or vapid. There are always exceptions but take a look at someone dancing on a psychedelic and someone dancing on E - major major difference. Don't get me wrong there are always exceptions and candy-flipping is amazing but I would never make music with my goal being to amaze E-heads.

You know who likes it? I do, and all of my friends who go to psy-trance festivals in order to expand our collective consciousness, dance our asses off and (at least temporarily) shed the shackling constraints of main stream society.

I find it absolutely hilarious that anyone would be so naive as to think they would be able to make sweeping generalizations like 'one trick pony'about ANY style of music (let alone psy) and not sound like a total douchebag. Unless they're trying to troll me, in which case they may have mildly succeeded, which is to say they've failed themselves.

cheers
