Wow, best compilation of the year, even better than Alien FM2.
Tops (in order):
Samadhi - Best track of the year and my favorite artist now. His track "Ohm Phorce" on Lunik was next level, with two ballsy bongo breaks and a newer more phat bassline. This track is like Ohm Phorce, but with more restraint (nothing really in your face like the two big breaks). It takes everything that he has built in his career and takes it to an even higher level. This bassline is yet another new one, quite different from everything he's used before, but also similar so you can hear immediately that this is the signature Samadhi bassline. It is also the phattest bassline he has ever made.
Nice subtle use of bongo-like instruments to continue the Samadhi signature. More electronic, computer beeping sounds than he's used before that adds a touch of playfulness and psychedelic-ness. At 1:18 there are some really playful rising-pitch effects that is new for him, but sound absolutely great. I normally don't like high-hat -- I think it doesn't sound very electronic and is very harsh -- but Samadhi uses a very fast high-hat that sounds more like a shimmer. At 3:55 he begins to use a cut-up voice sample that is new for him, but also sounds great. Around 6:00 he speeds up the bongo so it becomes a shimmer like the high-hat. 7:15 begins an array of computer shrieks, another new style for him that is superb. I also like the way the track ends, where the effects reverberate for awhile, causing your mind to think "damn, what I just heard was so intense".
Overall, the sound density is intense and your mind is enthralled the entire time. Song structure is also excellent, with the track building magnificently. He adds a lot of synths that he has not used before and combines that with his signature elements (bongo, bassline) to take it to the next level.
Kashyyyk - "Intoview" - Second best track on here, and one of my top ten favorite tracks of the year. The production quality is superb, far beyond what I expect from such a new artist. Some very unique sounds. Excellent use of voice sample at the peak. The song structure might be even better than Samadhi, builds better and is more immediately danceable.
Kashyyk - "Eat Dust (Temple Remix)" is very experimental, but unfortunately not something I would ever play. The first part is way too fast (for my taste and the huge slow break towards the end is just too long. Nevertheless, the synths are so original and production quality superb. I'm also impressed with him just for doing something so experimental.
Phobos Azazael - Very harsh sounding -- not in a bad way. Thematically dark with screams and harsh noises. I like that voice sample, sounds like a demon.
