since the search isnt working... (funny i should be the one exploiting it:)) i wanna know if and how do people work with templates in cubase.

i make everything from scratch each time.... im starting to think thats plain lunacy... i tried to make a template in sx2 but didnt get very far....
is this something commonly done to "jumpstart" into the actual production or am i the king of lazy's?
if yes (on both counts), how do i go about doing it to load kind... as an autoload in a new project?           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

I have developed a basic template for my Cubase setup. In it I've preset a couply of mono outputs to my DS2416 card for Kick and Bass, stereo-ganged channels 1 & 2 of the DS for the main Cubase outputs and set up FX1 on the DS as early reflections (although since getting Wormhole I now tend to use IR1 on my networked laptop instead). I've also split the Project window and added an extra time ruler and marker track in the upper section (although the new ruler always comes up in the main part of the Project window when I load the template - it's a known Cubase bug). I've also set up a few custom window sets but they're not really part of the template.

There's an option to 'Save as Template' in the File menu of Cubase; once you've set up the song the way you want it to start, save it using this and your new template will appear as one of the options available when you go to New... on the file menu.

If you want the template as an autoload, you need to save your template under the name 'Default.cpr', and make sure that in the General section of Preferences you have 'Open Default Project' selected for On Startup. Personally I have my Cubase show the options dialog on startup, as sometimes I want to load the last track I was working on, sometimes I want to load another track, sometimes I want to load my personal template, and sometimes I just want a blank screen.

Hope this helps.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

I'm too lazy to make a template. Several times i started a template but forgot to use it later. So i have some started templates that i never actually use. I always like to start from a scratch. It's not a principle or something. I am just too lazy to find the proper template.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

There's a symbol at the top of the track list, to the right of the master mute, solo, read and write buttons. It looks a little like "18" . Click it and the track list will divide into two sections, each independantly scrollable.

Ruler tracks and marker tracks can be created just like any other tracks, by right-clicking in the track list. You can change the format by which a ruler track measures time by clicking on its name in the track list and selecting the format you want.

I find it useful to have a ruler measuring time in seconds alongside the main bars+beats ruler, and I divide the track list and put the marker and ruler tracks in the top section. This is so I can make music in the bottom section, and scroll my music tracks up and down without losing sight of my 'seconds' ruler track and the marker track.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

i think that most sucsseded artists that already developed theyr style have templates for shure, cause every track its the same bass/ kick/ rythms and eq. almoost seems that they only change the notes and arpegios from track to track.. of course ther's always a new stuff on every track.. hopefully..
but i think this is a good way to work.
i didnt develop enough to say that i dont need other bass or kick or whatever.. so far everything can be much better to me so i dont make any of course i have more work if i want to make the same sound defenition.
thinking better this question of using templates is very important cause for a good live were the musics feet perfect on each other is important that the instruments playing dont difer too much, i supose..

After going through Colin's excellent Waves Compressor SideChain technique, I made a Template that has that permanently set up. It's an involved setup I don't want to do over and over.

Also I have a couple of the basic standard send FX that I always use set up in the template, as well as a Battery kickdrum instrument... it's funny people talk about not setting up templates out of laziness, to me it helps me be lazy yet still start new tracks on a whim because you don't have to go throught the introductory tedium of setting up the basic stuff you always use. It's worth it.

Seriously... what track are you going to write that DOESN'T have a a kick drum and available reverb & delay? But like Fingax said, if you overdo it with drums sounds & synths you'll use the same sounds over and over. I guess I wind up using the Vanguard in every track anyway....

The other thing I've been putting off is doing lots of customized key funtions... I remember watching Joti make a track & he has his key commands customized to the point where he can make a track without ever touching the mouse. From a distance it looked like he was typing an essay and all this awesome music started emerging...

Another aspect in my default template is that I've pre-loaded Kontakt and Battery (the two plugins I can guarantee I'll use in each track), and have hidden all their channels in the mixer apart from two mono and one stereo output each. I have both plugins set up for maximum available outputs, so to avoid an enormous mixer right from the beginning I hide all except the first ones I'll need.

The one thing I'd never do is pre-load samples or riffs into the template...           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
