now I don't think that top pop music sounds any better than top psy music. Different for sure, but not better.
Mastering has little to do with quality of the sound. It's more like a finish gloss on the paint of a newly assembled car. Quality of the car is in how it feels to drive it. Paint can influence that feeling too but it's an attribute most important for sales departments. It's the first thing you see and almost the last thing that really matters.
Now the debate about the number of labels is equally worthless as it would be the debate about the number of branches on a tree. Nobody can influence it and nobody knows how much of them there should be in the first place (including a tree). It just happens of it self... just like the branching of a tree. Each branch has it's own direction in order for tree to have a balance. Even thou there are no two equal branches the leaves all look alike and tend to change with seasons. If they stick for longer than a season than we're talking about evergreens
Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them - that only creates sorrow. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.
