hi all, having recently being exposed to the boshke beats sound and loving it im wondering how do they get such drums sounds? You know, the grainy, glitchy style. I guess alot of bit-crushing is involved. So if anyone would like to share their techniques for getting this type of sound id love to hear it. thanks:)

Try to compress it really brutally.
I mean fast release, slow attack and medium threshold. And maybe Noise Gate afterwards to make it sound dense. Also in Reason 2.5 there's a new effect called Sound Destroyer i think, and it's quite efficient on ruining the fluffy percussion and turning it into bruising heavy percussion.
Godd luck and make some noise.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

the waves rainessance package has some nifty gate effects and such. try to distort the loop with a tube effect (I found cubase's overdrive to suit me perfectly, with only three simple parameters) and than gate it.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. Hello Tim!
i have also done some experiments into this direction of groove-design. hard compression like pavel explained for example is very important to hold a lot of distorted percussions(downpitched and cutted snares maybe!) in a constant dynamic parameter. but with this you will only get a very constant and unflexible line mostly without the right flow.. the secret is to make differences between the frequence-notches of all the percussions you had connected in the compressed line. ohmboys-delay is realy helpfull for example,
dont forget to put the compressor at the end of the effects as the last but not least one. This rocks!

laters..
